84,060 gross? ... yep, there were some tires that showed a lot of additional "squash" then you'd expect for a 27k load if you cared to notice, not to mention trying to start out in 3rd/4th would not "seem right". Yepper, you're new and I guess we can cut you some slack but figure it out as quickly as you can. Yes, trucking experience IS a valuable commodity to those who are aware.

The 27k Kg almost makes sense but I can't believe a Mexican or California shipper would ever try and put that much on ANYone that was bound for a US/CA destination ... would they? Or he picked up the wrong trailer :biggrin_25512:

I highly doubt 27000kg. That converts to 59,524.810 pounds.

I had a friend here at Lessors load in NJ. Shipper said 40,000. He didn't weigh it. PA nabbed him. 93,000 pounds. Can you imagine? Weigh. Every. Load. Don't believe a thing on those bills. Weigh it. $10.50 will save you a hell of a lot more money and headaches in the end.

Wow🙈......just pay it and move on I can defenanly tell when I'm heavy, and if a shipper told me 27,000lbs and was twice that I'd send them the bill.

i have some steel bars in my shop now that come off a truck that was over weight they been here two weeks now @ $25/day and $250 loading fee I'm not even calling them just racking up the bill😉

I'll weigh the pups at 18k and 15k - it's just not worth it.

And I know second hand of a driver that hit the AZ scale overgross by about 3k . . . and it was NOT cheap.

I doubt a lawyer will be any help on this, sorry to hear of your mistake. Lesson learned, good luck.

Don't weigh every load that's BS... Coming from the west coast if its produce I would say yes weigh it, but if its frozen or general freight that's on pallets and shrink wrapped you should be good... Anyone who weighs every load that weighs 27,000 lbs is nuts... The general rule of thumb is set the tandems about 2 holes forward of the last pallet, you should be fine... That's just me... I can only speak for me but unless the bills say the load is 40,000+ I will not and have never weight it... Waist of time... Pay the $150 a year or so and become a member of drivers legal plan that will get you a attorney on retainer for unforeseen circumstances.... If the bills say 27K and most trucks can haul 44K+ obviously there is something wrong... I couldn't see any company telling a driver to weigh a load that is rated on the bills at 27K, that's an absolute waist of time and money, lets keep it real. I cant imagine being on E-logs and having to sit at a scale and wait for the incompetent idiot that is parked on the scale, while he is inside paying for the ticket, using the bathroom, and stuffing his face with $1 McDoubles.... Nah Not me...

The guy that I relayed with a while back in Eloy AZ didn't scale the load after he loaded. Bills said 37k. I took off but felt it was heavy on the drives. Decided to scale in Wilcox to be sure. With the tandems all the way forward I was at 36280 on the drives. Turns out it wad all loaded in the nose. Ended up going around the Lordsburg scale.
