Hey everyone! I am pretty young and are in HIGH hopes for getting my CDL and seeking employment within a Company.... Ever since I was 4 I absolutely LOVED the sheer size and sound of a truck... the smell of diesel, You name it I love it, So far the biggest vehicle I've driven is a 99 Mercury Mountaineer LOL! So really, I need some advice for doing this... My parents aren't exactly "behind" me on this job. But piss on em, And I think I'm the spitting image of a to-be trucker I love country music, trucks, and traveling. I have little experience with rigs on account I've never even been less than 2ft. away from one... But #### I love 'em! So really I just need help with starting a career in trucking, I know the basic requirements for a CDL. So when I go to apply for my CDL I just need some pointers with that... I don't intend to be a HAZMAT driver at all... I do have moderate experience with engines... replacing piston heads etc. So please, If you have ANY tips for me it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, KennyBoy
I don't blame ya after reading I was saying what the hell... Really, I need help with finding a Trucking School I live in a VERY small town pop.175 full of junkies, retired guys, and old loggers. The main town would be Baker City or in the North Powder, LaGrande area So If anyone is in this area I need help finding a school, And some tips on taking the CDL test, Research can only get you so far....
Are you even 21? It would be great if you were around enough truckers and small companies that someone would hire you and let you use a truck for the test. Save a lot of money and beat the usual system.
My uncles a trucker for URM but I don't really like talking to him he treats trucking like a job I don't think he enjoys it and here there are millions of retired loggers... Might ask them and thats not a bad idea pharm... Hopefully a Kenworth ^^
UH it is a job? a job that you have to put in any were from 60 to 100 hours a week. and as far as traveling you dont really travel any were but down a highway to the back of some shipper week after week. and the way the DOT is getting out here just to make a buck for the states its not to much fun any more. they really are (dot) getting nitpicky and writing tickets over some really minor things that use to be you need to fix that and go on down the road.not now that will be 150$ THANK YOU!! oh i hate country music
What I meant was he doesnt treat it as someone whos wanted to be a trucker (i have nothing against these people. I don't really care about the DOT stuff as long as i drive a truck, im OK. And Country music is awesome. Plus, also as long as im in the truck the distance, etc. doesnt really matter to me.
True. This is how I initially started but still needed "school" to get on with a decent company at first - so... I did this amazing thing, I saved money, paid for a phony piece of paper with a certified check, and was no companies indentured servant for a year or two. I ran 1 1/2 years as an OTR driver wanting to purchase a truck. I figured out that was not for me (I'd love to own it but it just does not fit my lifestyle - a ton of respect to those who really own it) and found Con-way Freight. There are success stories for O/O's and company drivers but do yourself a favor - never get into a contract with a company unless you own the truck and are contracting it with them. There is enough information out there now that nobody should fall for these schemes. Yet they do - just don't be one of them.
