Try companies like Coca Cola , Pepsi , and beer distributors . They don't require much experience .

Roushfann is right! As long as there aren't any experienced drivers looking for local work in your area.:biggrin_25523:

Unfortunately you are a newbie and as a newbie you must pay your dues just like everyone else had to do. If you can't handle over the road you are in the wrong profession.

    Weekends off:biggrin_2559:

Just a side note the definition of weekends off in the trucking industry is Sunday 2-3pm!

I think you should have research the profession a little more.

I worked for a company similar to Allstate Power Vac . They are on call 24/7 and drivers are often called in on weekends . If they do power plant outage work workers stay onsite running 12 hour shifts for 2 or 3 weeks with no days off .

A friend of mine had his CDL B, and he got a job at Coca Cola and they let him use one of their trucks to obtain his CDL A. So now he drives trailers for Coke and loves it.

I get out of school soon and have been trying to find a local job or regional with decent hometime. So far the most promising is a beverage company, UPSF, Conway, etc.

The onlything I can input is, esp. with your endorsements is try fuel tanker....I don't know how it is out your way but here out West it's a pretty good gig....And they train you!

But, there are outfits outthere that will hire you on. I work for a 4 truck 6 driver inhouse private fleet with awesome pay, bennies, the works! And I am the only driver with any OTR time....One guy hired on straight out of school.

There is always something out there!

    Anyone,
I am over 65 and very much want to get into trucking. I have my CDL permit here in Colorado and plan on attending truck driving school in March. Does anyone know what my chances are of getting hired? I am physically fit, no drugs, no accidents or tickets, no questionable prescriptions, passed my DOT for getting the permit and entrance into trucking school. I just don't want to be wasting my money if I can't get hired because of my age.
    Any info would be appreciated.

Ahhh, don't listen to all these " you have to pay your dues " guys. They are the ones who just "took it" when told they had to be gone all the time. In less than four months after I originally got my CDL I was driving for a company where I was home daily and off weekends, unless I wanted extra work. So the guys that say the jobs aren't there are the ones who didn't do the research. Good luck and keep looking around.

I've had a few companies I almost got that were home every day and ones on the weekends problem is more the industry is full of people like me looking for work too.. I'm thinking on going with US express the offered me northeast regional home on the weekends + some depending... does anyone work for that company? ill have to do the month out training but I can deal w that.
