Hi Drivers,
Can anyone share any personal safety rules or guidelines that you use while trucking?
Thanks

Don't tailgate and try to stay out of groups of trucks.
No matter how many times I have to GetOutAndLook, I will so I don't hit anything.Cattleman84 and tscottme Thank this. -
Remember YOU DO NOT OWN THE ROAD

Thanks so much everyone! I'll keep these in mind.

You can come down a hill too slow everytime... You may only come down a hill too fast once.

The truck doors are locked the INSTANT I am inside of it, whether I plan to drive, watch TV, or sleep.
I never leave my keys inside the truck, unless I am inside the truck. If I get out for anything, even briefly, the keys are in my pocket.
Always have AT LEAST one spare key on me. "Two is one, one is none".
Never hide a key outside of the truck. My "hiding place" is obvious to anyone that has found a hidden key before.
When I carried my dog in the truck, before the truck door opened a leash was on my dog's collar. No exceptions.
Never break up any fight or argument. Never allow anyone in the truck that the boss or cops wouldn't want in the truck.
Never stop/slow in the road for protestors. I'm going home, no matter what. NO. MATTER. WHAT.
Drive like the cops are in your passenger seat and your boss and dashcam are always recording.
Never park on the shoulder of the road, unless the truck is on fire, or for Code Brown emergency. If in doubt, take care of X before getting on the road or at a safe place to park. The road shoulder is the most dangerous possible place to stop a vehicle, everyone else in staring at their phone. A crash will be fatal.
Never tell anyone if I am armed or not. Anyone that talks about the subject let them have the impression every truck driver is well armed at all times if that is what they think. Most people think that.. Don't ask, don't tell.
If you are worried about the weather/road conditions don't pass another truck, but don't stay near it either. Space is life.
Don't buy anything from strangers.
All strangers are thieves, drug addicts, perverts, shipping clerks, or lumpers.
Most violence at a truck stop, and there isn't much AT ALL, is from people buying/selling drugs/stolen items or arguing about those.krupa530 and homeskillet Thank this. -
