Camping at the rest area on I 29 that is just north of KC. 456.8 today. A live offload. A 4 hr live load. A drop. And a pickup. Only 1333 miles left to cover by midnight Friday night. Not sure I can pull that off with Peoplenet. I don't like how it retroactively eats up my drive time when I get rolling. IIf you run into obstruction trying to get rolling your screwed over. Most elogs including Bluetree don't start ticking til you hit 20 mph or go 2 miles. Nothing retroactive. Anyway, heading to Orlando.

667.8 today. Camped at the delay area on Monteagle. I got a message today saying the 6/7 00:00 time was not a real time they just hadn't set one up. Now saying 6/7 20:00 promise time. Considering I drove hard to get where I sit only 601 miles away from Consignee and that my ETA is 6/6 at 20:00. They will have one Grumpy Gator on their hands if I have to sit 24hrs down there. I'm pretty sure they should know that by now. I will not run like a Slug.

Using the Florida Turnpike cut it down to 1269. Didn't have time yesterday to look closely.

Stuck on this load. Depending on how late this delivery goes it will be only about 7420 paid miles in either 18 or 19 days. Big Regression this time out. The probation period is definitely not over. Only 36 days/2 trips of my 104-105 days/6 trips worked here have been run efficiently. Paid miles per day per trip: Bad(414.5), Bad/Horrible(311.5), Bad(419.3), Good(499.1), Good(474.2), and now Bad again(412 or 390). It must be Good fairly consistently before I will truly trust this or any employer to be my home.

Dude all those statistics keep you in the dumps. Who does that? This is trucking you take the good you take the bad you take them both and their you have. Haha You thought I was going to say the facts of life. Nope, but I did forget what I was going to say. Ohh ya A JOB. It's not going to be perfect its trucking and living in Florida. You really don't have much to choose from. We all have good weeks and bad weeks. Good checks and bad checks, but I don't believe there's a trucking company out their that could keep you satisfied. You have a pretty good gig, but if you keep playing with numbers. You are going to be one miserable job hopping trucker. Hope next week is better for you. Keep hope alive :)

I appreciate your perspective but can't totally agree. A 120k to 125k gig is mediocre for an ambitious driver yet satisfactory for those that are not ambitious. There certainly hasn't been enough consistency here yet to know for sure if that is what this gig is. Had 2/3rds of my trips been efficient I wouldn't be overly concerned but seeing how 2/3rds of the trips have been inefficient there is reason for concern. I have no desire to turn a blind eye and then realize come tax time that my income is significantly less than it was before. Monitoring productivity is practical. I don't expect folks to view things the way I do. Everyone's perspective will be different. The excessive time on loads continues to be the hindrance to greater productivity.

After almost 21 years of this gig, I realized years ago not to look at load mile average or weekly miles as a gauge...I look at monthly, quarterly, yearly miles, and gross pay. In the perfect world, we all would like to pick up and drop off without delays and have things run smooth and efficient....but in the real world that seldom happens...especially in refrigerated freight. After 2008 the whole system went to Helena Handbasket. It is rare to find averages anywhere near what you're doing now. The only way to accomplish that is to either work for an O/O with a dedicated customer base or buy your own and get your own authority and dedicated customers. Working for a company, especially one who deals with general freight, and is in competition with other trucking companies for business will run much like you are doing now. Having been an O/O leased to Landstar (which is as close to being totally on your own as it gets w/o having your own authority) I saw how tough the planning and scheduling side of things goes when dealing with the freight customer. A better option would be to work for a company that pays better per mile rather than running yourself to death at a lower per mile rate. That way when it's busy, you clean up, but when it's slow, you still survive on what you're making.

I used to crunch daily numbers and I drove myself insane. Doing monthly averages made the picture more clear. Some weeks I would so 1800 miles, q the next I would do 3200. I drove myself insane, always thinking I wasn't making money. Monthly tally put it all in perspective.

Comes down to several factors. If I run 120-125k annually, I'm pretty happy. I have no desire or a real need to work any harder, so if that equates to "lack of ambition", so be it. I've also been doing this 15 or so years and quite frankly, I'm getting mentally tired of it all, what with all the stupid changes in regs, quality of fellow drivers, etc. But I guess the bottom line is that I refuse to get hung up on annual miles. After all, Mrs. Packard doesn't ask every Wednesday if I know how many miles I ran last week!:biggrin_2552:
