Wondering if any of y’all have replaced the original Delco starters, on 855 Cummins/N14’s and 3406 Cats, with the higher torque gear reduction starters?

I did, on both the S60 and N14. Mechanic likes it because they're lighter. Spins faster, starts better IMO.

I did on a 2000 with a C15, and will likely do so as needed on our 89s. It takes a while to get used to the different sound of them, but I haven't had any issues.

I’ve installed two high speed starters on two Cats. A 1998 and 2005.

They’re lightweight and easy to install.

No more laying on creeper with starter sitting on my chest then hoofing it up or worrying about dropping.

We still have some trucks like a 2008 C13 that use those heavy starters.

The best thing you can do it is to replace that heavy starter with a higher torque gear reduction starter. Not only is it lighter to put on but the bolts are easier to get to as well.
