Hauling for hire on a farm tag seems to be the norm here. Is there a loophole or are they just outlawing it? I see lots of trucks going to a local feed mill and the majority are farm tagged. I know most are not coming off a farm. What am I missing?

You would be suprised. One of the bigger dairy farms up where i live goes through 2 or 3 trucks a day in feed easy. 1000 cows eating 20 to 100 pounds a day depending on what they are fed and size adds up fast. Then there are feed lots and all kinds of other industrys. Cows aint sitting there just eating a pound or two like a human. And commercial ops typically have thousands of the critters crammed into spaces the size of a truckstop. So no forageing.

I think the biggest farms have something like 20k cows. 20k cows eating lets be conservitive and say 25 pounds a day in feed, times 20k cows equals around 500k pounds of feed or 10 trucks a DAY to feed minimum and as much as 50 a day. Even 1k cows your looking at a truck every other day at minimum or 2 trucks a day at max.

Granted a lot of farmers also have acers to feed the critters and feed lots are an extreme example but critters go through a LOT of kibble.

I don't see where "here" is, but in Wisconsin, a truck carrying feed is considered a motorized feed wagon. Same with manure, and no special drivers license or plate is required. I think there is a distance requirement, as most those trucks at the feed mill aren't going very far. Arctic_fox is pretty spot on. I don't know about 20K cows, that's a bit much, but in Wis. a couple thousand is not unusual. Many small mom & pop farms are being bought by these "mega" farms, just to get rid of the waste. Oh, we never hear about THAT,,,do we. Mega farms generate a S load of crap. Olympic size manure pools have to be drained daily. Disgusting. There too, some heavy loads of manure, operated by Slim the farm hand, with unmaintained equipment is a loophole that should be closed.

Know a bunch here that does work on Farm tags, some do it right, helping the other nearby farmers for “trade off”
(You help me haul mine off to market, I’ll help haul yours)

Some run into MO(which doesn’t honor AR Farm tags for hire, they don’t get caught, Cabool catches most
