Hello, I just started driving a 2010 KW. I believe it was originally a Melton Truck. I have a horn that blows when I get around 65 mph. Does anyone know what this is called or how to locate and disable this. It is not the city horn, it's not as loud. Thanks
Horn blowing at 65 mph?

Are you sure it's not wind noise? If it is an old company truck then chances are it has a hole or two somewhere in the body, and that is catching the wind and making funny noises. That's the only thing I can think of.

It could be a deer horn.I met a driver that had his horn on parked at the J in the fuel isle I asked him what that was he said a deer horn.

Unless they had a top speed allowed and that is an over speed alarm I have no idea...
Kenworth 4life and buddyd157 Thank this. -
Yea overspeed warning system. Need to have it taken out of the software program....

More than likely wind noise through a fairing or something. I have a friend with a Subaru Outback, and on a recent trip, the wind was a hollerin', and going into it at 65-70, we hear this freakin' horn blowing in the middle of nowhere, with no one around us. Then it would stop, when the wind calmed down, only to "blow" again when the wind picked. According to some Subaru forum ( there's a forum for everything) turns out, the shape of the outside mirror, and the window open a crack, produces resonance that sounds exactly like the horn.

I would start by contacting a dealership. if anyone would know it will be them. They will be more than willing to go for a ride with you to to diagnose what the problem may be.

i think the air horn just needs to be rebuilt or replaced, i had a truck do that to me as well, if i recall, it was the diaphragm (or something like that) at the lanyard connection (inside the trumpet) that was worn out. quick fix.
you cannot and should not ever disconnect any horn, electric or air. they had better BOTH be working if you get pulled in for a DOT inspection. the DOT officer will not be driving your truck at 65 mph, but he very well may have YOU operate both horns.Last edited: Jun 18, 2017
