when safety tells you that you have hrs to run tell him that you thought it was about driving safe and alert and not about how many hrs you have in a dumb clock.

lets clear up somthin that no company is gonna tell you, elogs are there so they can keep running you and make more money, in the days of logbooks a driver could say he was out of hrs and if they asked you to fax them you could just change them on paper, now they can keep track of you and if you try an tell them your tired and need a break they are gonna tell you that you have hrs to run, does any dispatcher ask you how you feel? nope they look at your hrs, and if a computer says you have hrs then it must be safe to drive. its all rubbish really and most dispatchers are brainwashed into it right along with the drivers.

the best thing you can do for yourself is find a non force dispatch company, then you wouldnt have to deal with all this exhausting nonsense

A 34 is never mandatory. Some people choose to use it if there is more downtime to gain hours back than the 34 hours off would be or if they want to do it or are simply tired. I know I have been running recaps for weeks and weeks and it has taken a toll on me.

OP, I feel for you, when you are tired then you are tired and that's not really something to mess with.
But, if I understand this situation correctly, then I can see why the dispatcher would want you to run if you have the hours. I mean, even if you run off recap you still get a ten hour break. In their minds (whatever passes for their minds), that should be enough rest. Probably not much you can do. Seems like once they have a load planned it can be hard to get it changed. Maybe you can push for a compromise... like you get the load picked up on time and work out a relay or something. I see no reason why you couldn't at least pick the load up and get it heading in the right direction.
Try to stand your ground, but be willing to give a little, then they know you still care and are not just trying to get out of the load. -
What?
You a slave?

I was on my way to a drop in MS, just south of Memphis. While driving, I started seeing car drive backwards up exit ramps. They were not, of course, but I knew it was time to shut down. I was about 20 miles from drop. I dropped. Parked at the ts and told dispatch I needed to reset. Had been running hard six straight weeks and was supposed to go home the following weekend, but couldnt go anymore. They pushed back a bit, but I told them about seeing the car. At that point my dispatcher relented.
Call safety if you have too, but do not drive if you are tired. You are not only risking your life but that of others too.G13Tomcat, pattyj and Boattlebot Thank this.
