I tell this to young women all the time: A Man will never tell you who he is, he will show you. If a guy says that he is a nice guy, he is not. Whenever you hear a guy telling you that he is something, he’s the opposite. RED FLAG.

In the very first post, OP says something about being ‘adaptable and capable and a man.’ The reason why he doesn’t like those grumpy old guys is because they do not recognize him as a man. Keep this in mind for when you start your business and look to hire. To be a Man, his words must be congruent with his actions.

    Six back quiet.

An average of five or six jobs a year for six years? I thought I was bad, six jobs in the first six years. I've stayed at the latest now for 4-1/2 though, and I can explain why I left each one without referring to a bad manager. (Not enough freight, and one time open heart surgery.)

I understand quitting for something better, but only when the economy is good (it's not now, and hasn't been for a couple years at least). Thing is, for the vast majority of these jobs, you haven't stuck around long enough to find out if it's a good job or not. According to you, it's always the company's fault, either bad equipment or dumb managers who just don't know how to run a trucking business the way it should be run.

You are 26. You don't know jack #### about what a well run company looks like. Don't feel too bad about that though. There are drivers on this board who have decades of experience and have the same problem.

The basic problem is your attitude. For some reason you think the world and especially the work world owes you something. Your job doesn't owe you any more than to pay you what they said they would, on time, and to provide safe equipment. That's it. Your part is to do some research before you take a job -- I mean real research, where you have a very good idea of what you're getting into before you even apply. Then, do the job the best you can and look for the good in it. The bad is always obvious, the good is easy to overlook.

I don't have any other advice. The School of Hard Knocks may or may not teach you some humility. As I said before, there are lots and lots of people who never learn. You can spot them pretty easy by the way they complain after a month or two no matter what new job they're at.

The good news is, your former employers no longer have to deal with you. I feel happy for them at least.

I’ve seen Chinatown recommend temp agencies. If I recall correctly his advice was intended for a driver unsure of what the different companies were like to drive for so they can get an idea driving different gigs without needing to job hop.

A temp agency might be good to stop having to job hop and find a gig where you get along with the office staff etc.

Job hopping is bad because some of the best gigs, say chemical hauling, they need to train you for months costing the company thousands and they won’t do that unless you have a proven track record of being reliable and dependable and at the very least they can reasonably expect you to stay for a couple years. Every company has some amount of training you need to do and even assigning a truck and getting you up to speed and into your groove is a considerable investment. Also, excessive job hopping is a good indicator of a problemed individual.

I had 5 jobs in my first two years due to jumping into the oilfield after getting my feet wet at a mega. This disqualified me from hauling gasoline from the huge fuel farm near home even tho I felt I was experienced in hauling hazardous liquid tanker in all types of weather and conditions and had some OTR and multi stop regional under my belt as well. They would have trained me fresh out of school but all slammed the brakes when they heard 5 companies in two years. It is what it is.
