And here we go...this is a COMPLETELY different subject. I'm done with this thread...not even going to get into the whole "guns are for killing" thing, or the rediculous pipe dream of a gunless America...I have a whole separate website and Youtube channel dedicated to the defense of owning firearms.

You guys have fun with the successful hi-jacking...make sure you determine who is right and who is wrong before the thread is finally shut down!

Rofl hi-jacking.........there shouldn't even be a thread to hijack. If people would learn to use the search feature instead of asking the asking the same questions every month or so (or bother looking at the docked posts) there wouldn't need to be any argument. The fact of the matter is simple, noone has EVER been able to come up with a regulation concerning the carrying of a firearm in the truck. Period. The closest anyone has come is a portion of the hazmat section that I don't feel like looking up right now, which has been debunked by the d.o.t as relating only to goods being transported, and not the possession of a personal firearm.

All you have to do is be following the laws for transport/carry of the state you are in at any given time. If you're really set on carrying in your truck get a lock box, go to handunlaw.us or some other resource. If you have a permit, find out who reciprocates. If you don't, find out what states allow open carry and be sure to check on municipal exceptions. If it's worth that much to you to have your gun, stop at the state line and get compliant every time. I didn't bother until I got on a regular weekly route that limits me to 6 states, and it's still a headache because while they all reciprocate NE, I haven't had the time and money to get the permit. Any story of a driver going to jail needs to be taken with a grain of salt, either he was doing it wrong, or someone didn't know the law and he rolled over. I was just stopped last month with 2 handguns, and just as with many drivers before, nothing came of it because they were stored according to the law of the state I was in.

That doesn't mean they won't find some reason if they really want you...they did take me in for a couple of the knives(handguards viewed as brass knuckles)tossed in my sleeper and forgotten, as i wasn't quite as diligent in checking up on non-firearms as i could have been. While the law was a bit vague, and I may not have agreed that stored in a box under a mountain of other junk on the top bunk was "on or about one's person", I owned up to it, skipped a trial and paid the fine like a man. Everything is going to boil down to how bad you want that gun, how diligent you are in fact finding, and how willing you are to be looked at a little more closely and own up to the consequences of doing it wrong.-Which are things every driver should already have asked themselves in any other number of cases(speed/compliance/etc).

LOL. I read the posts closely enough to know that your "crap" didn't come from anything remotely related to a reliable source. But, still - I probably would have just laughed it off and ignored you if you hadn't used all those exclamation points:

"Period!" As if you're the final authority on the subject. LMAO

You can carry it, just cannot be concealed. Put it in a holster on a belt around your waist. Some municipalities will require you to check it into the local law enforcement office while you're in town then get it back before you leave at dusk like Tombstone Arizona for one.

10 round or less magazine ( ny, for one & other states too ) You are not suppose to spend the night in the state of IL. Also, IL does not issue or recognized any states CCW. Meaning locked box, unloaded, bullets in separate locked box. Hmmm. Castle doctrine laws for each state. I have and keep a print out of the states and the different laws. Open carry states!. Do your own research.

There is no federal FMCSA law on this only state and local laws. Do research like previous poster said. I just did, took ten minutes.

You better check your print outs again. If you are caught stopping in NY state with an unlicensed handgun you could spend two years in prison. NY ONLY recognizes their own permit and does not issue non-resident permits. It is also NOT against the law to stay the night in IL with a handgun. Try checking handgunlaw.us for current laws.
