You appear to be under the false impression that your employer will let you take the scenic route and as many days as you feel like to make the trip. That's not how it works. Companies will select your route for you that is usually the shortest and the most cost effective for the company, not for your convenience and sleep schedule. It's up to you to look at the route and determine how far you will drive every day and where you will stop every night, but you have a schedule to keep and you're expected to stick with it. Yes you can make minor adjustments to your route with the approval of your company because of road closures and weather events, but most carriers will require you to stick with the pre-planned route and you had better have a good excuse for any variations. Going 200 miles off route to check out the worlds largest ball of twine isn't a good excuse. Carriers know exactly how long it takes to get from point A to B and the set the pick up and delivery times accordingly.

I worked for Wilson for about 18 months. Most of the runs when I was with em delivered in the morning or around lunch. Night time deliveries were rare.

I can vouch for this. I can pretty much sleep anytime. Especially after I've had a Kentuckian or two like I'm doing right now. Draining them drains me!

That was awesome. I spit out a mouthful of my dinner! Speaking of which... welcome to Cawker City, KS. So very "patriotic" of them to not allow trucks to park to view this awesome sight.

The can dexide, butbyou can sway that a little depending on time available before delivery... And how well you know HOS rules.

I prefer to deive at night, so I will use the split berth provision to swing my working day intobthe dark hours... But you have to really understand how that provision works or it could completely mess up your schedule, maybe even forcing you to be late for appt.

Its not hard to sleep in a dark sleeper with the curtains pulled, and the temperature set at the perfect temp for you... After 11 to 16 hours of work you will sleep reguardless of time of day.
