My apu keeps me warm. I like the cold. But when it gets to 0 degrees the problem is not keeping yourself warm but keeping your fuel from gelling. At that point idling the truck is the way to go.
Rubberduckin, Dharok, free spirited1 and 2 others Thank this. -
Webasto has an internal temperature sensor that's easy to get dirty and foul up. The unit will think it's overheating and reduce the output to compensate. last year I had it cranked up and water was still freezing in the truck.
it would put out heat like a candle.
They should filter the air going into the unit. -
I can't reply cause you said other than idle the big motor

Espar bunk heater.
Also in winter I will only stay the night at truck stops. No rest areas or other deserted places. If for some reason the truck stops or the heat quits I have a place to go inside.Rubberduckin and Dharok Thank this. -

Webasto bunk heater that has been in my truck since the day it was built. Factory install. Still runs great. Did do a fan replacement and new ignitor. This will be 5th winter on it. Have been using it already and will cook you out of the truck if you set thermostat too high when you start it. No worries on batteries or getting started. Have a Yamaha EF2000 portable generator in it's own rail side box that keeps batteries up via the Xantrex inverter/charger under the bunk. I stay up north all winter long.
free spirited1 and Lepton1 Thank this. -
