I'm at driving school and I got the gears down but taking off in 3rd gear on a 10 speed is not smooth for me. Any advice?

    Take off at 2nd then.

    2nd loaded
    4th empty

Atleast how I do it in a 10 speed.

Also if you are starting rough, u might be getting off the clutch too soon. Make sure the gear is grabbing on before u completely let go of the clutch. Yes I know you're burning the clutch but for beginners u can learn that then fix it once u got it down

You don't see the 'start ignition for launch' button on the dash?

Don't they teach you anything in truck driving school?

    :)

(I forget probably 90% of people going to truck driving school have never driven even a manual transmission car)

Are you increasing the RPM's? Slip the clutch at idle, maybe that will help? Also if you have a heavy load you'll need a lower gear to get rolling. Don't fall into that one size fits all, it's not like that. Weight, hills, how far you are from the red light, stuff like that matters.

It's possible your truck may need some work on the clutch, if it's not brand new. Just take it easy, slip the clutch in a good low gear, it should be OK. One reason timing red lights is a central skill is that taking off in a heavy machine is always going to be hard work for the truck. Even rolling enough for 1st gear is easier than a dead stop. Best.

Okay you are in truck driving school so we know the trailer is empty ,
I teach to start in 3rd gear
Clutch to the floor, foot on the brake
Slowly release clutch as soon as you feel the truck trying to pull remove foot from brake pedal while continuing to SLOWLY release the clutch , NO ACCELERATION until your foot is completely off the clutch then you can slowly accelerate
