Alternator quit on the way back to Ontario. It died in Pa and ran on batteries back to Burlington, On.
Luckily I run with 6 Batteries and staring with 12.8 v in Pa I was down to 12.2 v back home. I pulled the Alternator off , Friday night, and on Saturday morning the rebuilder provided me one for $276.85. No change, wtf. Back to the rebuilder, bench tested, it was check Ok, 14volts, 140 amp. He gave me a different one and bench test that 14volts,140 amps. Back on the truck on. Still no charge. Wtf. Temp -7c.
Sunday -14c, so to the shop Monday -16c. Inderdeo Singh, 905 664 7194, $90/hr, We checked everything. F it. Run a new cable from proven source to batteries. Cables off from Starter and Alternator. New Cable from Alternator to Batteries and separate cable to starters. IMPORTANT Point *Have your keys in your Pocket* or you will spend $248 for a locksmith. I did! Wtf! when batteries reconnected doors lock. #### it!
Singh's bill was 481.38 charging me 31/2 hrs, I got there at 9.15 left at 5, helps I am handy.

Or zip tie a key under the hood. At least you know most people won’t know how to find it.

Key in my wallet - learned that one.
Alternator in side box - would have given it to you.
May have helped you changed it, depending on the nearest steak house.dbny5000, KB3MMX, Flat Earth Trucker and 7 others Thank this. -
If you have a Volvo, how'd you lock yourself out? Those trucks don't lock from the inside
Flat Earth Trucker, DUNE-T, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
I figured most of it was for gas driving to the parts store
SmallPackage and Rideandrepair Thank this. -

Spare alternator and belts in side box is always a good idea.

Right beside the AC compressor. Mine all have an alternator and AC compressor with them. Those two items seem to cost an inordinate amount of money on the road, and spare belts just goes without saying.North Pole Nightmare Thanks this.
