Yep i cant wait for the breaking news story about the 250 self driving truck pileup on i80 when the first truck goes off the road due to wind and ice, and the other 249 "platooning" (which really just means, inadequate following distance) follow the first truck off the road....

Vale is easy, I prefer Donner with a blizzard requiring California max.

I don’t think ever. Same thing with the military trying to replace troops w robots. It won’t happen. You can have all the tech & computers in the world, they’ll never have the judgement skills or the emotion that you get from humans.

Besides, imagine how many companies would loose everything from lawsuits bc they decided the computer they bought was smarter than the human that was in that truck & now their family member is dead.

That's cheating to bring that up, though. We already know they can't chain themselves up

Someone earlier made an excellent point I think the tech might be getting close for highway driving (in ideal conditions) but city driving or inclement weather / non ideal conditions driving seems like it would be hard to totally automate.

So maybe we'll just get fully automated highway cruise control and just do city driving lol . They'd probably not pay us the same tho

I do admit sometimes i wish i had an auto pilot so i could open a bag of chips without swerving all over the road

Not sure. Tesla is current embattled in several lawsuits dealing with deaths from their auto pilot feature on their cars. In fact, there was just an accident yesterday in Arizona where a Tesla rear ended a DPS vehicle on the highway. Supposedly on auto pilot. Although the driver is currently under investigation for DUI so take that for what it’s worth.

I think at best it would end up like something of an auto pilot feature similar to commercial aircraft with a driver behind the wheel that can take over in any situation.

Who would be willing to let a truck drive itself while you’re sitting in it? I don’t know, certainly not me & I hope by then I’ll be long gone from the industry anyways.

Fun fact, that tech was designed with a human driver every so many vehicles controlling their segment of the convoy in mind... it was never meant to replace manned control of at least one vehicle in a march order, only to allow multiple vehicles to work together under control of a single driver

Negative. Not in my wildest dreams. I have control issues as it is. Don’t need to deal with trusting somebody else to safely drive me while I sleep... We’ve all seen just how bad some people are at driving. I mean look at the way my wife drives lol
