how long did you guys stay at your first company? I’m just curious my company I’m with is good. But I need at least 1,000 a week. And I’m definitely not afraid of the work that comes with asking for more money because I understand you need to run to earn. I always get good miles 500-650a day but slow down on weekends like there trying to slow me down. So who are the companies out there that are not afraid of running?

    Mooseontheloose and Lepton1 Thank this.

i wish i could fully recall..

but if i were to try to conjure up something, i'd say less than one month.

but back then (40+ years ago), it was way easy to get jobs, as employers could care less about your former employers.

My best advice is to not jump from one mega to another. Most of these carriers are going to be much the same. Most all of them have dedicated accounts etc etc. However I council staying where you are until you find a job with a non mega and have some idea of their accounts. I can't say much more.

3 years. When I netted less the 3rd year than the first I asked for more money and when they wouldn't budge I moved on.

about 18 months. 1 year was when I should have left though. They call em starter companies for a reason.

    A couple months.
The starter pay at Millis back in 1993 was a joke, but hey you have to start somewhere.
If I only knew then what I know now.......

Not many people have a plan when they come into trucking, other than survive training.

What is your plan? What is the end game? Your long term goal?

Truckloads of people think they will put their 20 in at Swift or CRE until they see what it's like.

Then as soon as they get ### raped a few dozen times, they start jumping from starter company to starter company, effectively crippling their career.

You want to put in at least a year. The doors to the trucking world swing open at that point.
