Pre trip gets a lot easier with repetition of doing it. I was doing so many pre-trips I was naming off stuff that wasn't part of the test. Just develop a routine for how you inspect the truck (example, while I inspect the engine I start from the top of the firewall and work my way to the front of the truck and go down) and you'll get it.
Also watch videos. This one is pretty good:kruz1980 and Rythetruckernewson Thank this. -
In Texas it was a written test.

Sounds like you are a little overwhelmed by the volume of stuff to know and remember on the pretrip, like, "if there are 100 items to point out, can I pass by pointing out only 61 of the 100 items?"
That is steering wheel holder minimum effort mentality. Gotta step up with full on professional can-do attitude, not only reciting the entire 100 items but going the extra 128 items in the next order of echelon.JReding Thanks this. -
Almost missed the part where you responded to my post and asked your question.
Responding to a quoted reply...start your typing to the right of the last bracket, and outside of the brackets, then it looks like this one does.
Like everyone has said, you remember everything with repetition. Set up your "routine", begin at the front facing the rig, point out to the inspector the lights (how many and where) the visor over the windshield, the mirrors, hood, hood latches, tires, lugs, no puddles of moisture or drips under the engine. Then go to the drivers side engine compartment begin at the firewall and work forward, brakes, drums, pads, air bags, electrical wires air lines liquid lines, oil dip stick, radiator and coolant, windshield washer fluid container...cover it all. You need to study and say it out loud to yourself, and then get a "witness" or "partner" and do it together, OUT LOUD. Over and over and over...you'll be saying it in your sleep, but at the exam, you'll be saying and doing it correctly!
Good luck!!Rythetruckernewson Thanks this. -
