Are taking the time to check hub oil as part of their pretrip. Or do you even have hub oil on your truck?
I've been having to clean a lot of sight glasses lately in order to just see the level, which means noone else is checking it. You can't check what you can't see. In the last 2 weeks I have found 4 hubs empty or almost empty. This can tear up your bearings and start a fire.

Many companies don't allow drivers to perform even the simplest of maintenance tasks these days. We can check and fill the three (coolant, washer fluid and oil) fluid levels under the hood, fuel the trucks, add DEF and grease the fifth wheel. Anything else must be reported to maintenance.

    luvtotruck Thanks this.

Its gonna go how its gonna go. So far it seems knight is gaining support from shareholders. Management doesn't want it but in the end it won't matter. All that matters is how bad knight wants it and what measures they are willing to take to get it done.

You know who's gonna get the ticket and CSA points when dot does the inspection don't you? It won't be the company and I'm sure they aren't going to accept the responsibility if there is an axle fire either. The other reason I mentioned this was because I was told that's one of the things the dot man look at as you cross the scales or go down the road. Dirty sight glass/hubs means it hasn't been checked in awhile, so what else is the driver not doing? Maybe we need to do an inspection and find out?To check the hub oil is easier and faster to do than checking the coolant, engine oil or washer fluid.Step 1. Wipe the dirt off the sight glass.Step 2. Look at the oil level in the sight glass. It should be between the lines.Step 3. (If necessary) Pop off rubber seal, squirt enough oil in to get between the lines, wipe dirt off rubber seal and replace. Done.
