I got away with 5 to start out then upped to 10 to watch stuff on a bigger screen.

16 should be fine but I'd switch. The unlimited plan is a much better deal from what you are paying.
You will lose 6 gigs worth of hotspot but can stream as much as you want on your device.

Before Netflix changed their compression rate, I have topped 200 gig a time or two. Now, it's rare that I top 50-75 gig...yes, I watch too much tv. But I also use it for Slacker radio, transflow, google maps, email, general web surfing. Heck, I even tethered it to my truck's Smartnav system and updated it's entire driver interface system's software, including updating the in dash CoPilot nav system. However, Verizon has warned us grandfathered unlimited users that we would have our service suspended if we exceed 150gig, so I have learned to control myself. My account cycle ends the 19th, and I am just shy of 50 gig now.

Well it sounds like I should just upgrade to the unlimited data plan after I am on the road to see if i would need it. I will be with a mentor for training for a while should I buy a gps while I am with the mentor or when I am by myself? I hear that the rand McNally is the best one to get.

I have Verizon as well and it is hard to beat their coverage, though each carrier has spots where they have no coverage while another carrier might. However I came from T-Mobile and am much happier with the coverage I get on Verizon. As far as Data goes I can use 30 gigs or more in a month, however I do watch a lot of YouTube and some Netflix here and there.

Main reason I got the T-Mobile One Plus plan is Binge On. Unlimited video streaming (YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Sling, ESPN and more) on smartphone, laptop or cast to television; without counting against your data. SOLD!
