I'm about to go pick out a truck for intermodel work pulling from shipyards in savanah. I was hoping to get some advice on the type of set up I'd need. I'm lookin at a frieghtliner columbia with a c 13 cat and 430 horses.....it'll have a gear ratio of 3.42.

horsepower is how fast can a engine move a certain weight to get to a certain speed, the faster the more horsepower that engine got.on a flat surface at a cruising speed all trucks will use the same horsepower no matter what engine is it.being in georgia a 430 hp engine should be ok if coupled to a 13 speed so you can run faster while keeping your rpm low.
Houndstooth Thanks this. -
7 to 800 not because you need it just to say you have it

thanx zinita, I appreciate the feedback. I could oppt for a 550 h c15 with 411 gears but I'm very concerned about the fuel I'd burn up

dude, hauling containers out of savannah you will be broke long before he is.Scott50, Clasix1055, SHO-TYME and 5 others Thank this. -
what can you tell me about the pay?

Judging by many trucks I see pulling containers you only need about 250HP because the engine is only running on 4 of the 6 cylinders and the air compressor is running 100% of the time with the air dryer going PSSSSHHHT PSSSHHHHT PSSHHHHHTt every 4 and a half seconds as you sit next to them at the fuel island.
