How much is an apu?My My portable AC and Gen setup

The exhaust from a gas generator can kill a driver or yourself. A diesel does not make the same exhaust gas level and uses a LOT of air so the exhaust gas concentration is way less.

 

My 2017 truck has Detroit Optimized Idle. It was around in the 90s but went away with the new emission trucks. It back again and now the computers can also automatically do parked regeneration. So no APU needed again. The computers start the engine and turn the heat or a/c on. It can also start to charge the batteries and keep the engine oil warm. When needed it to also Regen the DPF and only takes 20 minutes.

 

I have it on my truck. in CA if you set it up at 80F the engine will start and stop in every 20 minute summertime...

 

Get an exhaust extension for the fumes it puts off.


To those saying spend 12k on an apu....LMFAO yeah right.

 

SO I assume that this is all acceptable for an owner who hires a driver, pieced together sleeper system for a/c, heat and power.

 

Yeah, unless I'm misunderstanding, that's baloney. 12btu? The new tripacs can put out 16,000btu. I've run with a 4k btu a.c. and it was no good south of like, Michigan in the summer. Not running a motor inside my cab either. Too high fire risk, and your exhaust port location is foolhardy. No thanks.

 

BUT, in answer to your question, a refurbished APU can be had for 5-7k installed. New for 8-10, California compliant, 12-15k.

 

I quit running reefers a few years ago but will pick them out in the truck stop and park next to em if I’m not going to idle.. drowns out all the other truck stop noise. And we are talking tk reefers not them deep rumbling carrier junk.. lol
