Dog boarding is $50 a day on average so $1000 for the month is a deal. I frequently have boarded 1 or 2 dogs at my home.
The OP should take in a dog friendly student possibly or responsible adult as boarder. Depending on housing situation in his area might be able to pull in rent and get pups taken care of for free.
Last pup we boarded,,6 month old Irish Wolfhound,,120 lb puppy

Sirscrapntruckalot and Chi Town Steers Thank this. -
sounds like he has a house so I would definitely be looking for someone to rent it out and care for the dogs if it was me

I've seen one with a parrot. And some with ( ugh!) cats

1) I AGREE. I have never driven a truck or any other commercial vehicle, due to NOT being able to pass a D.O.T. physical. Had I been able to get into truck driving, I would like to have gone OTR, all 48 states & Canada, both as a SOLO & company driver.
2) I have never married, never had children, (actually checked to be absolutely sure), no criminal record, clean driving record, & live in an apartment which would permit me to be away for extended periods of time.
3) RESPECTFULLY SPEAKING, I would NOT own any pets, fish, or plants, anything that would require necessary care on a daily basis, had I been able to become an OTR truck driver.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
The absolute sheer driving force of our national economy - without truck drivers, our entire national economy would come to an absolute standstill - if not outright be dead.

Over the mountains, through the woods, into the valleys, coast to coast, from sea to shining sea - truck drivers can and do go anywhere and everywhere, every day, every night, all year round.Last edited: Apr 22, 2025
OldeSkool and GoneButNotForgotten Thank this. -
Are they small at least? My company didn't allow pets, but I've seen some who had them anyway. They since came out with a pet policy but it has to be small and a $500 non-refundable deposit!

Sneaking a pet into your truck will eventually get you fired. Companies are increasingly putting cameras with microphones in the cabs of trucks. The trucking companies I have researched that don't allow pets treat a contraband pet the same as picking up a hitchhiker. You will be terminated and possible kicked out on the spot, even if you are 4 states from home. DO NOT SNEAK A PET INTO THE TRUCK.

Yep. But one of these has been with the co. Over 20 yrs. Not all companies are n*zis. But I wouldn't want to test that theorytscottme and born&raisedintheusa Thank this.

I don't get some people, are they that desperate that they have to drag their pets on a venture that they may end up bombing at?
My suggest to the OP, get a local job, go to UPS and put in an app. Work on the dock at a 9 to 5 and work towards getting on the road.OldeSkool, tarmadilo, skallagrime and 2 others Thank this. -
People seem so rough on the OP for having pups and driving a truck. I had puppy and took him on the road . He loved going to new places and meeting other people and dogs. Stopping at rest area and going exploring and walking. My company was ok with one 1 small dog on truck. I had to pay $200 deposit.
There are some trucking companies you can have 2 dogs it seems. You just have to drive for one of them. Choose to make that the first priority when looking for a job. Getting thru training or some experience till you solo in your own truck is the only real problemLast edited: Apr 23, 2025
