A thread listing all the ways that drivers can fight back now, before cameras become as prevalent as elogs.
I hate it that drivers just let themselves be rolled over and violated by companies like it's shower time at the Big House, then say there's nothing anybody can do about it.
Some people even seem to like it.
So how do you suggest drivers fight back?
Swift is the biggest, the other bad boys in the gang seem to play "me too," and follow them.
So, what would happen if Swift got flooded with thousands of letters and calls from angry drivers about their decision to install cameras?
I don't get it. 250,000 tv viewers can write a network, complain about a character on a show, they take notice and changes get made. Shows even get canceled from viewer feedback.
50,000,000 can call in to American Idol, but you can't get drivers to get proactive and do anything to protect their careers? To protect their ability to put food on the table?
As for the chicken suit? They could sell that. It'll keep you warm in winter at the companies that won't let you idle for heat. Drivers would wear it just to freak people out while they're going around. -

You're under the misconception that the driver-facing camera is a tool that will exonerate you. It isn't. The camera is constantly recording. Sure, it might only "protect" a 10-20 second clip surrounding an incident from being overwritten, but the FULL CONTENT of the card's memory IS available to anybody who has the card. Get in a serious wreck. Cop pulls the card as "evidence". Over the course of that hour or 2 (or more) that is on the card, how many "slip-ups" did you have? States attorney in a criminal case, or plaintiff's attorney in a civil case, WILL watch that entire video and take the snippets where you WEREN'T 100% attentive to your driving and place them back-to-back-to-back in order to paint you as an irresponsible and dangerous driver.
Why give them that tool? These cameras WILL be used more often than not to crucify the driver, NOT to exonerate him. If you want a camera that will clear you of wrongdoing, get a forward-facing dash cam.
Think about it. Those cameras at the store, in the bank, at the bar, etc...they aren't there to bring attention to GOOD behavior so that stellar employees can be congratulated. They are there to catch the employee (or others) stealing. They are there to provide evidence of wrongdoing AGAINST the person caught on camera.
So WHY are these cameras being installed? If you think they are for YOUR benefit as a driver, I've got some oceanfront property in Kansas to sell you...MACK E-6, DannyB, KenworthGuyNH and 2 others Thank this. -
Swift is changing their BS now calling the incab driver facing camera an 'in cab coach' to correct wrong and dangerous behaviours lol.So that kinda reinforces the idea the camera is there to catch you doing something wrong rather than to exonerate you.

I drove a cab for a while that had them and its true i did kinda forget about them sometimes, until i would pick my nose or something and instantly remember!

This article is quite a read. It says that the data is uploaded online to be reviewed. One thing for sure is NOT to sign anything to acknowledge the placement of cameras in your cab.Last edited: May 5, 2015

I wouldn't work for a company that chooses to put a camera in my face. Period. There are too many companies that treat a driver right and don't violate their privacy to deal with companies like that.
