There are more of the smaller fleets than there are megas. The reason why you don’t see them is because
1. They have direct contracts. They only go to truck stops for fuel.
2. They are mostly local, regional and home every day.
3. If they do advertise, it’s only in the local area.
4. No name on the back of the trailer.
Take a drive into your local industrial area or down a US highway and look for the trucking yard. You should see many of them.
Luck in battle.

My company sent out a message this morning saying the mandate doesn't include solo drivers...not sure if that means just OTR solo or local and line haul solo drivers too.

I have seen mention of the “let’s go Brandon” communists pushing a under 100 employee mandate. I wouldn’t worry about playing their corrupt game. They make up rules as they go. End game is murder.
I’d just stick with YRC. Plenty of talk of lawsuits on this communist control tactic.
Otherwise... I found where I’m happy through a very unpretentious little add in Craigslist.spindrift, D.Tibbitt, LoneRanger and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks for the advice guys. It looks like it will work out to stay at YRC so far which would be perfect for my family situation. Very happy here.
I had given up on Craigslist a few years ago for buying or selling as there were so many scammers and bottom feeders. But based on your suggestions I will start perusing it to get a feel for the smaller local outfits. If we end up moving in the next couple of years it would be good to have a sense of all the options.
The only downside to most of the big LTL carriers is that their terminals are of course in the heart of industrial areas and most nice housing areas are going to be a longer commute distance. That’s fine for my first couple of years driving but eventually it would be ideal to get on with an outfit like tanker or something that would be home daily and either not a long commute or allow keeping the truck at my home in a secured area. Nice to be at a good company for mow! -
As of right now the mandate is on hold. As it plays out hopefully it will be destroyed.
