I knew someone in your situation who found a guy through DMV who had a truck and trailer that he used specifically for that purpose. You should check with them if you haven't already.

Post 12 indicated there are companies who rent trucks for CDL & the OP said they dont rent trucks. ????? Sure they do.
The OP also keeps saying "most trucks wont pass inspection". I dont believe that. Any company that commonly rents trucks for people to take a CDL driving test, has trucks that will pass an inspection.
I do know for a fact that here in Monroe, La, the DMV will provide you with a list of people who are contracted to give CDL tests for the DMV. They have trucks for you to rent to take the test. Its an all in one deal. Take the list, call the contractors, set up a date to test. It used to be $60 to test & about $80 to rent a truck for the test. I'm not sure what it costs now.
As a matter of fact one of those on the list is a truck driving school here. You do not have to attend their school to take a CDL driving test with them. They will give you the test & rent you a truck.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
Out here, to be honest, I do not know of any "contractor's list" at my DMV, as here in the past, corruption abounds, but maybe where YOU live and maybe the o/p, there IS such a list? Then I'd say you're lucky. As it stands and from what I have known in the past, tractor-trailer rentals CAN BE done at any of the local CDL schools, but an instructor has to go as well, for insurance purposes AND to be the sponsor. No sponsor, NO testing, it's that "simple" here.
So I personally can only "relate" information pertaining to possibly "some" parts of the country. Please DO NOT assume anyone can rent a rig at any time, as there are restrictions that apply. -
G.Anthony and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
This is all we can do, after that, what else, right?
Only in regards to the instructor going to the test site, he is only there for the truck insurance and as a sponsor, he would not actually be giving the tests, the state DMV people would be. I do now that in my local Craig's List ads, some have asked for a trucker that can help with this situation, so that was one more "avenue" for the o/p to follow up on.
Have a great weekend.!Grumppy and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Don't mean to come across like I have an excuse...just that i may have tried that avenue and what I ran into when I did....then get advise from that.
