I have a 2007 Volvo 630 I bought last year. I have receipts for over 43000 dollars, which included a salvage engine, and about every part on the truck and still breaking stuff every week. ... My fuel milage hasn't been out of the 5 mpg range since I owned it, unless you doo 55 mph all day long. It is the worst truck in my 21 years of driving. I have had 4 count it, 4 steering boxes and power steering pumps in 12 months. 3 shops all said there is nothing wrong with any linkage, kingpins, or tie rods, or alignment. I am almost broke. If I can manage to pay it off in 24 months, I will be getting my Peterbilt with a Cummins and never look back. Not to mention, it will be brand new awill have maximum warranty until paid for. I hate Volvo. I will never buy anything from them ever again. ..

I believe many of us have felt the frustration of dealing with Volvo service centers. Sorry for your woes. We go in thinking we,re taking care of our trucks by taking it to specialists who are familiar with it to leave with a hefty bill and an abundance of little faith. All I can suggest is find a local shop that you trust and save your work for them whenever possible. As an o/o your going to take a beating, minimizing it is the best you can do.

After the experience I’ve had with past Volvo’s and now, I can definitely be sure the current Volvo I’m driving now will be the last one.

I’ll go to my previous experiences first, which were with a now-defunct company I used to drive for. They had bought a bunch of brand new Volvo 630’s which were a lot nicer than the old freaghtshaker Columbia they had, which by then were approaching 6-10 years old and in really nasty condition. The first one I drove kept having to go into the local dealership , GATR Volvo, for “updates”. By the time I got out of there the clowns in the GATR shop told me they had to “harvest” the steering wheel sensor out of my truck for another customer’s truck. When I got back into the truck I found they had mounted the steering wheel almost upside down so I couldn’t even see the gauges, and when going straight down the road all kinds of bells & whistles started going off. I promptly walked back into their shop to demand it get straightened out IMMEDIATELY.

Fast forward a couple of years later when I moved into a slightly newer Volvo, same model but with different interior and a few small upgrades. Unfortunately the engine brake went and it went into the same dealership 6 TIMES to get fixed. Finally it was bad enough I was moved into another truck. I later found out that GATR kept overlooking the same bolt for the Jake brake mechanism each time.

Now the current mess. This time it’s a big-daddy sleeper 780, premium stereo with amplifier & subwoofer, ishift, etc. I moved into it 2 years ago and since then it’s been in the RDO dealership numerous times for the same SCR system problems and never fixed correctly. Each time they would release me after supposedly “clearing the codes and replacing a sensor”.... only to experience the same problem again a couple weeks later. It’s already had the driver’s side aluminum fuel tank corroded inside the straps bad enough it had to be replaced and the stereo amp replaced 5 times.

Now the latest nightmare... the dreaded message “SCR system fault, engine will de-rate to 5mph max in <___ minutes”. The DEF gauge would swing to empty and the associated light would flash basically meaning the onboard computer thinks the DEF tank was empty.... which I just filled. It would do this on & off through yesterday’s driving until I got halfway through the day’s driving and I went to stop for my lunch break. This time the same thing happened and the gauge stayed dead for the rest of the day. I wound up having to call my current company’s after hours dispatch and I have to stay put for the dealer(near by, fortunately).to open Monday. Which means my delivery will be late and my paycheck much smaller even if I get breakdown pay.

I currently have my name in for one of the new kenworths the company ordered. I was told the owner of the company told me he finally got fed up with the poor quality of the Volvo’s and the dealers screwing him over. After this truck I will never drive a Volvo again. If I was an owner operator I would’ve been dragging Volvo Trucks and those dealers into court for the poor quality and workmanship.
