Are you scheduled for home time? If so just tell them a couple of days out from your home time, that's what I did both times I quit. Once most companies find out you are quitting they are anxious to get you out and get someone else in that truck. You can tell them you will do two more weeks but odds are you will be turning your truck in shortly thereafter..just make sure you are close to home or near a terminal

After being laid off for the first time ever in my life this year, my views on giving notice have changed. If they're fully within their rights to send you out the door without notice, the same goes the other way IMO.
Jayatlswag, NorthEastTrucker, JC1971 and 3 others Thank this. -
I take the part about the terminal out..Just make sure you are close to home when u give notice!
Canadianhauler21 Thanks this. -
going back to a former employer is like going down the pay ladder, rather than to go up.
and i NEVER give a notice of quitting.
i always looked at it this way, they give YOU NO NOTICE of a lay off, or even a closure of the business.
how many stories have we ALL read about companies closing up and drivers left out on the road with NO fuel card?
screw that....
up and quit, is what i always did, and i ALWAYS got a job.Jayatlswag, Canadianhauler21, okiedokie and 1 other person Thank this. -
Other than a couple that had bounced checks, i've never been hard up enough to hire someone that quit with no notice. Always figured what they will do to one, they will do to another.

Everyone telling you to give two weeks has probably never been screwed over, trucking is not like any other business, there’s a lot of scummy douchebags that own trucks, gave notice at my last company when I registered my truck and lost vaca pay and a paid holiday on the last week, I’ve also given a notice and been told don’t bother and was left hanging for two weeks, give a to day notice, ie today will be my last day
buddyd157 Thanks this. -
If all there trailers were that bad, no registration, I’d quit without notice.
Why take the chance of a ticket?
buddyd157, Canadianhauler21 and Lonesome Thank this. -
They get the respect they gave me .. if they didn’t give any they don’t get any from me. And yes things change at companies sometimes it takes 15 year guys leaving like at my former company where I was a o/op then company driver . The issues that made me leave got resolved after another long term guy left as well. Small company 30 to 35 drivers
snowlauncher and Canadianhauler21 Thank this. -
I would plan to be cut loose immediately after giving notice. If they keep you around, great. If not, you were fully prepared for the worst.
Canadianhauler21 Thanks this. -
Is this the type of company that would tell you to park the truck and get out?
Some companies are concerned about having a driver who is unhappy driving their truck.
I have always found it best to put in for home time and get back to the terminal.
It is then up to you if you want to ask them if they want you to run another two weeks. Most likely the answer will be no.
Make sure you leave on a good tone. Tell them everyone was nice but it was not a good fit for you. So they don't screw up the last check or your DAC.
Also be sure everything is set up at the next company.Canadianhauler21 Thanks this.
