Tell them company B is offering you that big sign on bonus and you need the money plus that new truck with way higher mileage pay. They might make you a better offer, has happened with me a few times with some upgrades. I write it down on a piece of paper, why I should quit with reasons and let them see it, once they see something written it changes things and shows it's not an impulsive decision.

Some States, like NC, have the Employment Rules/Laws of "You or The Employer Can End/Quit/Terminate Any Employment Status For ANY or NO REASON". (Not verbatim) One Need NO REASON To Separate, so the "2 weeks notice" is just Cow Dung.
I've done the "2 weeks notice" a few times b4 Trucking and I was "replaced" b4 end of timeline.
Look Up YOUR STATE Employment Rules/Laws.

As to Trucking:
I NEVER ABANDONED ANY VEHICLE or COMBO!<<such can follow one for Life>>
I NEVER QUIT UNDER LOAD or AWAY FROM H.Q./DISPATCH YARD!<<see above>>
I NEVER WRECKED ANY EQUIPMENT (although I've Driven & Pulled some questionable equipment)!
I NEVER DROVE ANY EQUIPMENT LIKE A MADMAN under the faulted guise of "It's Not MY Equipment" (but it's still Your Tail and you need to get back home [unless Living in the Truck])!
Last O.T.R. Company was a Local Outfit of which I worked 4 times since 1998.
It was a nearby company. They're still in business. They began in 1994.
The Last time in the Truck at the rented parking area, the Owner clearly offered me into a Fight as in "If There's Anything I'm Saying That You Disagree With, You May Step Out Of The Truck and We Can Discuss It"!
I responded: "That will Absolutely Solve Nothing As You're Fully Aware Of Why I'm Leaving"!
That agitated him a wee bit more yet no problem, for the LAST Time.
He was nuttier than a ####House Rat as well supposedly an ex Wilkesboro City Kitty and some other unbelievable avocation timelines (to seemingly have lived 150 years).
No Fist-Ti-Cuff, just gathered me stuff and "split that scene".

That has nothing to do with an employee quitting. An employee can quit whenever and however they wish.Lonesome, Val_Caldera, bentstrider83 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Also, if one isn't under a contract for either a training, or bonus obligation, then leaving shouldn't be held against them in any way. Like I mentioned before, employers shouldn't make any attempt to get someone to stay. At the very least, that should be considered a form of harassment.
Someone wants to go, leave them alone. Get off their back and suck it up. -
This thread kind of cracks me up. 4 pages in 8 months on "How to quit from a company". Some good advice and some #### that is just off the rails. I think it goes like this...... " I found a better opportunity at another company. I am giving you my 2 weeks notice. My last day will be xx/xx/xxxx. This should be done electronically as well as verbally. Case closed. Done deal. It really isn't that difficult. You either work 2 more weeks or turn in your truck and keys.

Time to fully embrace the "Quitting Culture" then. I know I'm probably going to start knocking back a few and throwing myself a little party after telling a place that "it's over". I'd think quitting and getting fired would be less of an issue for some if it wasn't demonized so often.
You lost your job. It's not like you were convicted of a capital crime. -

In all honesty, most carriers will direct you to clean out your truck and depart the terminal once give a notice. They do this for various reasons. I used to be of the mindset to give that 2-week notice. In almost every job but OTR trucking, I still do this. You find another job just leave! Don't tell the carrier while you are out. Come into the terminal, clean out the truck and get it inspected as you turn in the keys. NOW with all this said, if you are changing jobs because you are unhappy about something speak to someone about it and see if they can fix it. Give the carrier a chance to fix it. If you are leaving because you found a better situation just quit!
