How to read Truck Paper ads

    The first 4 letters are the model designation prefix (RTLO)

    The first 2 numbers are how much tourqe it can handle times 100

    The 3rd number is the series

    The next two numbers are for the number of gears it has

    And the last letter is for the ratio set

    So do these numbers apply to all manufacturers? Where would I find these numbers about a particular truck listed? I've never seen anything like that in the truck paper ads.

    The numbers mentioned (RTO, RTLO) are Eaton Roadranger transmissions. There are other brands but Roadrangers are the most common.
