I have a Kenworth t800 with a 600 Cummins. I haul gravel at 36000kg in the gta. My question is if I’m not splitting gears should I leave the button forward or back until I reach 18? Also, what gear would you use to take off from a start(flat/incline/decline)? Any advice would be great. TIA

Button back if not using all splits.

Button back and I use all the splits especially loaded as heavy as we are. Keep in mind I have 3.55 gears as well

When loaded, or on an incline, start out as low as you need, so you can just ease off the clutch with little to no throttle - then split and shift as needed to get rolling.

The 18 gears are there to minimize excess load/damage to the driveline. Use as needed.

Yep. 600 hp will easily grenade any other part of the drivetrain. Baby it through takeoff and the lower gears.

Start off in lowest gear always, button back, usually only split 7 and 8 on mine

will move the button to skip half a gear though and shift a gear and a half if I can

I've always just grabbed gears as needed. With an RTLO-18918B the high split is actually direct drive in the aux section and low is underdrive. So you're not going to hurt anything leaving the splitter in high.

Button back or button forward it doesn’t matter. Just as long as you are in a proper gear. I pull 140 plus almost daily rarely do I shift all of them. Generally it’s 1-4 in low. Split to high. 5L/H 6L//H 7L/H 8L/H.
If I’m light. Under 100 I shift all in H or a combination. Depending on grade/traffic/ and speed.

You rarely need the bottom unless you are heavy and starting or pulling a steep grade or in traffic.

This is with 3.90 rears. I have two speed rears with a 3.90/5.30. Only have used the 5.30’s a handful of times

I worked with a couple guys that never used the splitter, just left the splitter on the high side, and just used the range lever. Shifted like it was as 9 speed.

I just use the high split. Because that's where I end up on the highway.

The last truck I drove. The speedo wouldn't work in the low split.

Only time I split was climbing hills.

I use low granny gear for taking off when loaded. But I weighed over 100k.

It's fuel consuming using the pedal to shift 18 gears. And I don't know why anyone would want to shift that many gears anyways.

Just because the gears are there. Don't mean you have to use all of them all the time. Unless you're heavy.
