Pretend that you are actually sleeping and dreaming and before you know it you will actually do it.

I don't drive, and I have fibro, it tends to keep your mind busy thinking and not cutting off. I use one of the pm sleeping pills, used to be Tylenol Pm but they pulled it from the market, so I use Walmart brand with ibuprofen in it now. I most generally have to take only a half a pill at night anymore at home. Also taking a B12 with it helps too. With fibro if the muscles are really being crabby from rain or even just working in the yard, a half pill helps as a muscle relaxer also, it doesn't have to put you to sleep.

Milk products also might be good, tryptophan helps with sleeping.

If noises keep you awake, find a good pair of earplugs to help cut down on it some.

Well at least on the bright side you will always know which way is north and south, east and west. Can't help you much with the sleep part, sometimes I have issues as well and I am home every night. Last time I spoke to my doctor about it he said maybe get a cd or tape with ocean sounds on it. Lol. Kinda funny cuz we have a house on the coast and sometimes I can't sleep because of the waves crashing. One of the (many) bad things about the HOS now days is that it is hard to just "pull over" and catch a nap without burning up your time.

nice cast iron frying pan works wonders. On a serious note try meditation, I have issues with sleeping sometimes too and I find it the most effective thing for me

it's good to know i'm not the only one who struggles a bit. i think i might try to "practice" sleeping. i'll eat some 2 minute noodles (for the carbs) then go an lay down and pretend i'm asleep. maybe my body will get the hint and let me drop off for a while. i'll also grab some equivalent of tylenol pm next time i'm down the street and see if that helps.

I asked my doctor about this.

He said when he had trouble sleeping he would take a nice hot bath and then go and make love to his beautiful wife. He wouldn't prescribe me anything. Told me to try that.

The next month he asked me how it went.

I told him "GREAT!" , but told him he really needed to change his bathroom decor.

I do use Tylonol PM sometimes but try not to make it a habit. One pill and I can fall asleep fairly well and if I take two I can get a good solid six hours, wake up and go pee then back to sleep for a little more, but taking two I always seem to be more groggy in the morning.

Any episodes of Neighbours or The Flying Doctors work well too !

Seriously. Ear plugs work for me. Then random disassociated thoughts. I suffer the ever turning mind too.

I had issues with insomnia for years, these days I have gotten better at falling asleep especially if I just drove all day long which tends to tire me out during the last bit of my hours. Only time I had trouble falling asleep on cue was when I woke up in the morning and they sent a preplan to pick up late in the evening and I tried to sleep during the midday to be ready to drive all night, sometimes the idle of the truck helped with the ac blowing on me.
These days I have mostly a set schedule of hours I drive daily so its been a lot easier. My wife always mentioned a natural aid I think called melatonin?
