I just texted my dad about the McDonald’s in Vinita, OK. He informed me it started as a Howard Johnson truck stop. That got me missing and wanting their food. Is that last restaurant still open? If not, or hey I’ll say in addition, where are your favorite truck stop eateries? Besides your sleeper berth lol

Howard Johnsons as we remember it no longer exist.

We had one near Hav're De Grace Maryland on the US 40 once upon a time. Sold it off when 95 was opened.

I remember Vinita OK well. That is the McDees over the I44 proper.

IT is also the largest McDonalds by square footage in the free world.

Sad to know. Too many companies that are great go down because the new generations don’t care to run them.

It is a very cool McDonald’s :) My dad mentioned it is the largest in the world.

  7. no that was never built as a Howard Johnson...
    it opened in 1957 as a McDonald's..
the Howard Johnson's we're all located in Illinois when the Illinois toll road was first built in the late sixties and early seventies all of the Illinois toll road Oasis says featured a Howard Johnson's Restaurant inside them...
until about early 80s when they began to switch mainly to Burger King's at the time.
now all the Illinois toll road oasis's is basically have many food courts
so your father was right about toll roads and Howard Johnson's but the Glass House in Oklahoma was never a HoJo cafe.
Now The Glass House was the biggest McDonald's in the world one time no longer isn't the biggest McDonald's in size as far as restaurants some other ones around the world have passed..but more of square footage...

  9. it was in square feetbut it also is one of those deals where you would probably put an asterisk nowadays if one wanted the challenge was it the biggest restaurant as far as dining size because it really wasn't as far as a dining room it didn't take up two floors of eating when it was built either... so it's kind of a fun debate as to what was the largest on in merit

I'll go along with that. LAst time we were there, the counter was reduced in that eastern wall and I recall maybe 8 tables and chairs scattered around about half the floor space looking North by west

  11. yup... and there's a Subway in there now.. I only stopped there when I'm cruising the cross cuz Big cabin has crappy coffee and I like come and goes coffee since they remodeled it that was 1 Plus to it..
