The trucks I am looking at are probably $42k tops with most upper $38k. I really wanted to see what would happen if I suddenly had a financial "stupid attack" and decided to take on that much debt In one shot. Realistically I would maybe finance $30k at the most.
But yeah, right now is probably the WORST possible time to have a midlife crisis. I only have $44k left on my mortgage and I am embracing the suck on my little beater (that has no AC) until my house is paid off. So maybe next winter I'll get a used Tundra or Tacoma. And I am not shooting for Platinum or the 1784 leather editions. Just something where the AC and stereo work..nice-ish. I've only owned three cars in my life. One of them is my wife's old one that I am driving now.

Ever think about simply getting the AC fixed? Perhaps it's $500, but it's $500 one time.
-
Sooo, in answer to the original question......$4000+$830+ $930=$5760..before the month begins and before you turned on the AC, bought groceries, or put gas in your new ride.
Looks like LTL is the way to go, boys.
Let me spell it out.......
Five thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty dollars, ++++, before you get out of bed -
Yeah, but if I buy a cheaper model my coworkers will bully me!!!Speedy356, jtaran06 and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.

Yup. $500 was my rough estimate as well. Not a huge price to get out of the oppressive Carolina heat. The problem is that about 7 years ago when we moved here, someone at the DMV messed up and registered the wrong mileage. This inadvertently is screwing up the value of my vehicle and the most any dealer would give me is scrap prices @ $500. I rather just forfeit my comfort until the vehicle finally falls apart so I can justify getting something new.
It's been paid off for years and I just don't want to sink anything into it that I won't get back out of it.hope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
Good luck getting the a/c fixed in your car for $500. Cost a $1,000 on the wife's car about 3 years ago. It's a 15 year old car that's been paid for over a decade though that's the only maintenance item outside of routine. It'll be a good car for another 5-10 years #### a car payment. I feel good about having a home mortgage payment less than some people's fricken car payments. That's crazy.

I paid off my wife's car five months ago or so. Only thing we have left is our home mortgage. I totally feel you on having a home payment lower than some people's car payment. Ours is only $333.37 a month.Lumper Humper, rollin coal and Opus Thank this.

And if you put that car payment towards your mortgage, you'll be that much further ahead.
Save some for a rainy day thoughBanker, jmz, road_runner and 1 other person Thank this. -
Nice! Ours is only $650 monthly. Home owners insurance and property tax would bump it to $1,000 but I pay those separately.road_runner Thanks this.

Same. I don't escrow anything. I keep a separate savings folder for my annual taxes and pay that at the end of the year. Insurance pays monthly with my other bills. Speaking of insurance, I hope everyone is considering this: If you have held your auto/home policy for more than five years, I would highly recommend you look around to see if you can find a better deal online. I am not suggesting lowering your coverage or anything, just find the same policy under a different carrier if your driving record is in good standing. I recently dumped my old carrier and I went from $379 for home/auto each month to about $250 with someone else. These carriers will constantly make gradual increases to your premiums every now and then and it is difficult to spot sometimes.Carpenter Scotty, jmz, Cardfan89 and 1 other person Thank this.
