I lost my job in November 2015 over a drive cam video. It was the kind of job you never want to lose and you just exist until retirement. I really enjoyed the job.
I got work right away with a company that paid about 30% less. I took the job thinking we could make it work for now. I am not upset with the company in the least. I'm driving 130 miles a day round trip just to get the truck. That means the 14 hr days turn into 17 hr days. I went from day shift to night shift and I am finding my body just not wanting to adjust as I need it to. That said, I started looking for a regional job in the Cincinnati/ Dayton area.
I was in a hiring process with a food grade company in Dayton. I took all the tests and physical and was offered the job which I accepted. I put in my 2 week notice with my current carrier. The following day I was contacted by the new company saying they couldn't use me due to an accident I had in my personal vehicle last May. It was very minor but bottom line it was a bonehead thing that was totally my fault.
It seems like I've talked to a thousand companies. There are a handful that say They can use me despite the accident on my record, but most want you to leave out Sunday morning or Sunday afternoon. I'm not complaining, but that just does not work out for me and my family. I will say that I've talked to 2 guys who told me that leaving on Sunday does not count as a work day since you are already loaded and will not unload until Monday. PLEASE! Gimmie a break. If you are logging hrs, you are working.
I have a phone interview tomorrow with a chemical tank company. I am going to call another tomorrow that I interviewed with between jobs last time. In hind sight, I probably should have went there first. anyway, If anyone has any leads in the Cincy area that has Sundays off, I would appreciate any info.
Thinking that "Anyone would love to hire me with my 16 years experience" really backfired on me. Completely humbled...
Humbled... Confused... Frusterated... but humbled for sure...
