It's nice to see trucking outfits that pay what it's worth to be out there and try to make a living.

    IndianaMike Thanks this.

How many miles are you running per week between you and your wife? My husband and I are considering R & L. Just talked to a recruiter yesterday and it sounds fantastic!!

We are running 6000 miles in 5 days. Well it's 578 each way so more like 5780 lol. Remember we are on a set dedicated meet and turn where miles stay the same every week. If you run system or open it will differ.

    UPDATE
We just got a company wide raise. Our rate pay per run increased 10 dollars each way. We now get 377 dollars each way for 578 miles. We still get a raise in Sept after 3 years. We will be at full rate which should be about 395 each way. Right now we are each grossing 1885 a week. We are knocking out our debt very fast!

I need to add that LTL teaming is not easy. You need doubles triples, hazmat and tanker endorsement. Some nights you will have to hook up your sets. That means grab first trailer drop it. Grab your dolly and drop in front of that one. You may have to push pull and turn the dolly which is heavy. Then grab your lead trailer and back to the dolly. Hook dolly to rear of lead . Then back under rear trailer. Most times a yard jockey will be available. Some times there won't be. Once you are hooked you can forget backing. A set of doubles will stay straight about 30 feet backing. You have to find pull throughs. . If you get stuck where you cant turn around you will have to break down your set and back each trailer to where you can hook them up again. When you get to a terminal you break them apart and may have to back both trailers in docks. And if your team partner is sleeping its all up to you. Sometimes you will sit waiting for your load to get to you or drive towards your meet guy. Some loads will require you to placard 3 signs in each trailer. That takes a while especially if there are no holders and you have to tape each one on. Just putting it out there.

How many times are you unhooking/hooking trailers per day? Is this something that a relatively strong female could do? Is this hard on your back? Thanks for all the information...its really been helpful so far.

When we pick up the yard man will have them together. You have to hook airlines to both front and rear and hook dolly chains. Both landing gears cranked up. At meet point you drop the set so only have to unhook front and hook to return set. Get back to terminal and break your set apart. Unhook front and dolly from rear. Drop dolly and then put front trailer in a door. The yard man puts rear in door for you. BUT when there is no yardman you have to put rear in also. And you'll have to hook next set up. The dolly only has to be moved about a foot to drop and again to hook. BUT if you hook a set up you have to move it morr to line it up. My wife can handle it. A small woman may have some trouble. When there is a yardman on duty all is good. Maybe once a month we have to do it all. When our yard truck was broke we all had to do all the hooking up and breaking for a week til it was fixed. Drivers help each other at terminals and of course teams have each other. Wife and I are awake on each end to help each other. Sometimes when freight is slow we will go to a terminal in route and have to drop a pup and grab another. So team driver may be asleep. If you would like private message me and I can give u my cell or my wife's. Mike

We are looking into driving for R&L but we live about 181 miles from the nearest terminal that is hiring teams right now.. which is Houston TX. Not sure if that is a wild team run or a dedicated.. too late in day to find out right now. Is there a radius they want you to live in... i guess Wild teams are still out 5 and home 2? Or can they stay out?
