Just going to jump in here having not read much of this thread, and not knocking you @Nickanator1988 by an means, but it seems to me after 20 years of being in this industry, companies are tightening way down on what they won't put up with, take carriers like RL, ODFL, that are paying over 100K yearly and then they become super picky. Not saying it's right, but I think you have to be of a certain mentality to adjust your ways to be able to live by their standards in order to financially live better. Going on 40, and having driven a truck since I graduated, I struggle with where I'm going in the industry, I know the excellent paying companies are out there but am I ready to sell myself out for a buck? Haven't quite got there yet.

I will say when we were hired they went back 30 years on mine and my wife's background check. We both got notices in the mail saying they went back to we were 16 on our licenses. Criminal background also. Maybe they didn't like something on your record. They are picky

I just tell everyone to be honest and disclose anything you may have done prior to the standard 10 year you must provide. They can go back as far as they wish on their background checks.

Honesty is what screwed me the ticket wasn't even on my record nothing came up at all their isnt anything on my driving record as i said already.. i could have just answered the question no and i would be working their no problem.. i wish yahll could have heard the phone call cause then you would be most likely agreeing with my situation or if it was yahll again you would be saying the samething it was straight bs never had any company questions me as long as my record was clean it dont matter.. but its all good indian mike i know you been there on a dedicated for several years and your situation with them has been fine. Im just saying my experience was horrible with rl and its all good it is what it is im moving on too something better and different.. it will all work out
. But i appreciate this thread and all the questions everyone has answered for me it helped me out alot and full of amazing information for me and lots of others so i thank everyone.. be safe out there because this industry is out too get us all one by one..

I’ve been out here the better part of three decades professionally and I grew up around it. I am questioning my future too. I made good money with R&L, 82k the year I left and I’m making more than that now running for a small outfit I found while working for R&L. It was R&L’s crap that made me walk away from them after being there 10 years. I could’ve gone to work for another LTL, but it would’ve just been a new set of problems. So don’t feel bad, I think there’s a lot of us questioning why we stay with trucking. The guy I went to work for wasn’t looking to hire a driver when I met him but he ended up buying a truck and going after freight for me. It’s worked well for both of us . He said that was the biggest problem, finding a good DRIVER. He didn’t believe in advertising and adds guys based just on word of mouth. Maybe that’s the kind of situation you need to look for. I am a W2 employee for him but the way I run the truck it’s more like being an o/o. He trusts me to make decisions on freight and the truck unless it’s something major. I think that’s part of what’s missing from many employer employee relationships is mutual trust and respect. Almost all of them preach it but I think it’s rarely practiced.

Amen exactly i agree with everything you said couldn't have said it better myself this industry has very few real good opportunities left and getting harder too find almost extinct really.

Yeah i have other avenues im working on its all gunna work out just gunna take sometime and patience is all but im making progress.. trucking has been good too me and bad has given me everything but has also taken everything from me its taken my blood sweat and tears and time away that ill never get back..

I just want my time and life back and working on getting it back and retirement in the next few years. But i wish everyone the best on this thread nobody else gunna understand this industry better then us drivers.

    How's it going?

I just submitted my application. I've been waiting on Walmart but r+l seems like a good fit and less of a commute.
