    Just unplug it.

If they ask you what happened say you were driving down the road and hit a bump and the thing went dead.
You had no safe place to pull over until you got to the truck stop, terminal or whatever.

I ran out of time about 8 miles from our yard a few weeks ago, pulled into a parking lot, did my post trip inspection, logged off duty, and PCed to the yard. Hey, it’s there to get the truck parked in a safe location, right?

As long as you don't make a habit of it. Minor HOS violations of a few minutes once in a while aren't a problem.

    Poop happens.

Just go over. It's not the end of the world.
If you falsify your logs like this you not only are going over, you now have a falsified log, which is worse than a simple violation.

And before anyone says PC, that's not a valid use of PC.

    1. Time spent traveling to a nearby, reasonable, safe location to obtain required rest after loading or unloading. The time driving under personal conveyance must allow the driver adequate time to obtain the required rest in accordance with minimum off-duty periods under 49 CFR 395.3(a)(1) (property-carrying vehicles) or 395.5(a) (passenger-carrying vehicles) before returning to on-duty driving, and the resting location must be the first such location reasonably available.

I highlighted the part you ignored that makes it invalid.....
It's only good for when you get kicked out of a shipper/reciever and are out of hours

Lordy, if I stopped 6.5 miles from the house, I am pretty sure myself and anybody I know would call me a moron, and I have to come through a scale 15 minutes out in any direction.

I understand where everyone is coming from. But regardless of what you think, feel or see as fair.....you get into an accident and it becomes an issue. The other person can be at fault, but you shouldn’t have been there in the first place. The lawyers will sacrifice you if there is injury or death. I think I’ll play it safe and stay out of trouble/jail.
