Well between these mudslides and the I-40 bridge issue, anyone suppose it could be devine intervention? A higher power suggesting folks stay close to home.... No I'm not one of those nut cases, its just a thought that occurred to me.

That is a good route... When theres no traffic... But would be a nightmare with all, or most of, I-70 using it.

Parts of that same road in Glenwood canyon has been replaced not that long ago. Within the last dozen years another landslide took out part of it. This one looks to be more major though.

They're going to halt construction on 50 at Little Blue Creek Canyon to help carry the traffic load.

Not that I'd consider that or the north route a viable alternative unless you were already in Colorado. Don't need a bunch of guys who are scared of the mountains up on Monarch (or Rabbit Ears, for that matter.)

Don't know when it was completed, but mid-80's it was still US6 two lane as they built the viaduct.

They are saying that the slide debris has actually changed the course of the river enough that it's damaging the road in one spot, and against the other bank in another spot, and it could possibly start eroding along the rail side disrupting rail traffic if they don't hurry and get this cleared asap

The slide actually dammed the river with mud and debris.

Just did my three runs up to Platteville. Saw that on all the electric signs on the 287, 70 and 25. Luckily, I'm primarily a regional, North to south driver and the last time I went through the mountains with anything was like, 2011.

There are two designated detours, the primary detour is Hwy 9, to US 40 to Hwy 13 if westbound, the reverse if east bound. The other detour is US 550 south from Grand Junction to US 50 to US 285. As of Monday the state has suspended all construction projects on US 50 and US 285 for 90 days. Either detour will take at least 7 hours.

Colorado has since updated this information, as the closure of 70 is likely to be months in length. They are now adding you can take US 285/US50/US550, regardless, both detours are 7 hours long.
