The pay in trucking? All the way from pretty sucky.....to pretty darn good--depending on the type of freight you pull, your level of experience, how clean your driving record is, what CDL endorsements you get/have/use, and where you live.

For a single guy with no children, it's a pretty good choice--compared to a lot of other options out there now.

Your biggest potential obstacle right now is passing the DOT physical (and your previous driving history--the fewer accidents/tickets, the better; no DUIs, please!). They will test you for drug use; make sure you can test out clean.

Stevens Transport (mentioned above) is good place to start. Temp-controlled is a tough gig--but you can make some really good money.

Later--especially after you build up some experience--you can get a job where you are home daily--or you can have a job where you stay out longer than a month at a time, if you like.

LOTS & LOTS & LOTS of options in the transportation world.

You are younger than the average driver by at least 20 years. Come on in.

With a linehaul gig and a little seniority you can be looking at $100k+. First year you'll be around $60k.

It's a physical you have to pass to drive a commercial vehicle. The three biggest hurdles to passing are your blood pressure, sleep apnea and your eyesight.

Dry van, sometimes called van, is much less hassle & headache than frozen/refrigerated, called reefer freight. Van requires almost not attention from the driver. Van is the majority of freight. Van uses trailers that are just empty boxes. Reefer trailers have Refrigeration units on the front of the trailer andca 50 gallon fuel tank near the legs of the trailer.

Check with your state unemployment office and ask aboit a WOIA or WIA grant. If you are unemployed or under employed you may be eligible for a no-cost CDL school. It's much better to find a company that seems like a great place to work before you decide about which CDL school or how/who pays for your school.
