Different world today. ELD ticking down put a ton of pressure on a driver to be on time. They race as fast as their governed truck will go to avoid unknown traffic jams/roadwork up ahead. Add in the pressure of being late 3 times, that driver is looking for another job. They need to run hard all day long all week long to feed their families. Take shortcuts and risks, trying to pass whenever they can, taking advantage of that old school courtesy that the slow lane truck which is already going the speed limit might slow up and let their truck over even though they are governed 2 miles per hour below the speed limit.

These days I let my speed back off a bit to let the other driver past. I do this for several reasons, I don't want you next to me any longer than needed. Why let my blood pressure rise over a trivial matter. There are more but you get where I am going. Now if I have a driver who likes to leap frog alot I will either slow down a bit or take an early break in order to give distance.

Wise advice, I follow this to the letter every day I'm out here, all the racing to save 5 minutes? Isn't worth losing life or limb over, be it yours or someone else's.

Unfortunately the industry is full of people who think just like you.

Glad I’m almost done with it you people can have what’s left.

pssst, your truck is variable speed.

You don't need to run against the governor all of the time.

Exactly. I dont need to race anyone, and sure don't need to prove how fast my truck can go. Stay out of the"pack" is my goal. At times I laugh and say " ok driver you just got around me, now git on down with your bad self". Oh and don't forget the Volvo driver with their left foot resting up on the dash. Fed Ex and Talon drivers. Talon is grocery chain Giant Eagle here in western Pa.

Lol. Was it in a Volvo? I may have to test drive one to try. Mayby in the owners manual as a suggestion for maximum driver comfort?
