I didn't fall asleep. What's my best course of action?

Just hire a Lawyer. It’s very possible you fell asleep. It happened to me once. Woke up in the median, almost got back onto the road. Ended up with 2 Tow Trucks. No ticket. Got Lucky, blamed it on my Dog. Trooper knew better, but let me slide. Since my mid 40’s it hits Me quick. I’ve had to learn all over again when I’m too tired. Let the Lawyer decide your best defense. Pay whatever it costs. Might just beat the ticket. I had one once, 12 yrs ago, from an accident that was my fault. Lawyer got it turned into a no point equipment violation. $800 fine. If you really blacked out, see a Doctor. May have had a convulsion or have some serious neurological disorder. Most Truckdrivers do.

My dad had a similar issue. Ended up putting his pickup in the ditch and hitting a tree. Ended up being a symptom of heart failure. Four months later he had a massive heart attack and I found him dead in his kitchen the next morning.

You need a doc much more than a lawyer right now so you can figure out exactly why you passed out.

It could have been a seizure OP. Even if it was a diabetic episode or something like that you wouldn’t pass out that fast. It sounds like you blacked out instantaneously. When someone passes out from a sudden loss of blood pressure, a heart rhythm, blood sugar levels being off, it doesn’t happen instantaneously like that. If it’s determined that you had a seizure you’re driving days are probably over. That’s a big no-no because most people who have a seizure will have them again.

Sounds similar to symptoms I experienced of altitude sickness. The blacking out part I didn't have. Might be worth investigating since the "cure" is increasing your water intake. Good luck.

I bet you had a syncope moment, which means until you are properly diagnosed, you should not be driving.

the courts will defer to medical proof that you can drive and passing out, no matter what the cause will force them to restrict or suspend your license until proof is given from medical professionals that you are able to drive.

That's the first thing I thought...although I'm no doctor, I just pretend to play one on the internet. The dizziness could have been an aura.

I guess I was tagged because I am a card-carrying epileptic. Syncope usually is caused by something triggering the Vagus Nerve. Most of the time there is a brief feeling of dizziness preceding passing out. A sudden episode most likely is caused by a seizure of some type. Last Thursday I was at the Richmond Virginia VA hospital and had a Tonic-Clonic seizure. Right now I am in a low period and am depressed and generally not feeling well because of my heart condition. I can only recommend the OP makes an appointment with a neurologist and get an EEG done. If this is a true seizure most likely your driving career is over! This subject almost causes me to begin crying with emotions. I wish I could be of better help, but it's an everyday thing for me today!

This first video is what these dang things feel like!

The next video is one that I try to show people in what to do and NOT TO DO if you come upon this happening. I still have a chipped tooth because some well-meaning but ignorant person stuck something in my mouth!

Yeah, the nerve of these yahoos. You come here seeking legal advice and they gave you medical advice! Want me to bite one or two of ‘em, or would you like to bite them yourself?
