I’d be switching trailers every day.

Whichever company you choose, you may have to explain your most recent gap in employment.
Answer: "I've been busy moving into my new home in Las Vegas. Had all my belongings in storage."

austinmike, Numb and Chi Town Steers Thank this.

Well don't be afraid to ask questions or post pics on this forum if u don't know what ur looking at. With older equipment you are going to want to pay attention to stuff like frames and cross members. Trailer weld points. Suspension components especially, look for stuff cracked and broken... seems the vast majority of their violations are ready basic preventative maintenance stuff. Which is concerning. But see what happens when u push back on the boss man to get something fixed. Maybe it's lazy drivers that don't do pre trips and don't care about getting anything fixed. Sometimes it's not always the boss man. Just don't ruin your record out here, because it will end your career before it gets going. You won't ever be able to make real money at a good company with dumb equipment violations

Aye, and that's the rub. 90% of the violations are on the trailers.

When I was with Schneider, I could bet on PrePass/DriveWyze to get me pre-clearance at the scale to avoid any scrutiny. Even if I got pulled in, odds are they'd run me across because they'd already inspected two other Schneiders that day. Worst comes to worst I could try throwing myself on rule 396 and say the defect happened enroute and I was moving to service. In the right circumstances I'd move rolling wrecks with nary a thought. In the wrong circumstances I'd be banging my shoe on whomever's head was available until Schneider sent someone out to fix it

With this company, the good endings are not going to happen. You'll be told to run the equipment back to the yard. No pre-clearance and no decoys to draw the heat. Once DOT pulls the company's SMS score and the violation history of the unit - you're screwed. And not in that good way where everyone ends up sweaty and a little sticky.

If you refuse to haul the trailer, you'll end up like Little Boy Blue Balls. If you do and get caught the resulting diddling with leave you with 7 pregnant toe nails. Either way you'll be broke and forced to work in a Fun House.

Not good, I would get the job - red tag every trailer that had an issue then find another gig.

Its all experience that is going to be very useful later just dont put your CDL or CSA score at risk.

Its always easier to get a job while you have a job.

Why don't people figure this one out?

On DAY ONE you need to walk around the yard and red tag the entire fleet. "This one, this one, and also this one...". Then quit.:)

When you are job hunting while currently employed you will be less likely to make poor choices than when you need a job because you’re out of work.
