Defensive driving in most states doesn’t usually erase the points. Finally it gives you a buffer where the state acts like they don’t exist. However insurance companies will act like they exist and they are who run trucking and determine if you are hireable.
Going to be real hard to find someone to pay for your training. You will be able to get a job. But it will be hard and tour rate will be low.
I have 6 point points on my license

Not true -
September 2019 will be the three year mark for your speeding ticket which should fall off your MVR. You could probably enter trucking school around mid to late July and get your CDL and be ready to apply to driving jobs at the lick of midnight of the three year anniversary of your ticket in September.

Not every state stops reporting points after 3 years. Most insurance companies still count the points if it’s on your mvr report. And nothing is stopping him from going to cdl school now. No need to wait for the points to fall off to get in school. Just wouldn’t be sponsored by a companyChinatown Thanks this.

Either way. If the state pays for it, they'll want pre-hire letters from a couple of companies before they pay for school with tax dollars.

Still no prehire. And had multiple people in my class that came home from prison, had dui, multiple points. Still no required prehire -
Well, maybe your state has different rules. Dozens of drivers on this forum were required to get pre-hire letters for 2 or 3 different companies. We helped them find companies that would give the letters, because they didn't know where to start.
