I live in the UK, but I want to drive in the USA.

    Hi everyone,

Trucking in America has been a dream of mine for many years, and I'm getting frustrated with myself for not doing anything about it. I have a few simple questions that I can't find answers to online, but knowing the answers would really help me to figure out whether this is a achievable dream or not. . .

What are the chances of me getting a visa? Would I be able to start off with a holiday visa and then get a work one through a trucking company/school?

Is there any point in me doing truck driving tests over here? I presume I'd just have to re-do it in America in order to get an American driving license? Would my UK driving lincense (for a car) even be valid in America, or would I have to re-do that as well?

Any info would be really appreciated, and thank you in advance.

Most drivers from the UK here in the US are domiciled out of Canada. I would imagine its easier to get a work visa through Canada, but I don't know for sure. I'm sure you will get lots of info here. In addition to what you find out here, if you haven't already, check the UK Roundtable Trucknet forum. Lots of info there too from people doing exactly what you want to do.

Heck, just come through the messican border- that way you'll get welfare, unemployment, a driver's license, and a business loan you never have to pay back. But seriously, if you can get off your bum and come on over, and with a positive attitude, you'll love driving over here. The range of scenery is astounding vs. what you have in the UK. And plus our weather is usually better. I worked with UK Army and Air Force in Afghanistan so I've learned the differences, you should have a good experience here, but you won't find blood pudding and beans for breakfast LOL. Cheers mate!

Hmm ok, thanks guys. I will look into Canadian work visas - it's something I hadn't considered.
