Thank you. This is exactly what I have been trying to say. I only passed my CDL because they told me how to cheat. I'm worried I won't make it passed my 1st orientation when I need to demonstrate my skills.

Hey zachery2011, sorry to hear of your loss. If it's any consolation, you've been through probably the toughest thing anybody has to go through in life. As far as Con-Way, that might be a little tough, as I'm not sure you have the qualifications for Con-Way. I applied at Con-Way once, and unless something changed, they made you load and unload your trailers at the dock. Not sure if that's still true, but I didn't want to do that. I still say, the best thing for you would be to sign up with a company for a year as a trainee, and learn the ropes that way, then you'll be set for a wonderful career in the exciting world of trucking.( to be perfectly honest, trucking is 5% exciting, and 95% of the time, nothing happens)

I did speak up several times. To the instructor and owner of the school. They told me there's nothing they can do because 1 instructor quit before I got there and the manual truck just broke down. Said it was not their fault and told me nothing I can do. I told them they did false advertising and they said it was not false I just happened to join there school when they're having bad luck. So we only had 1 instructor with 24 students signed up and only 1 truck. So we all had to share time. 12 were in the classroom all day the other 12 were in the auto truck. 6 in the am 6 in the afternoon with the instructor going back and forth between the truck and classroom. Usually they don't have that many students sign on. I asked why they had too many and won't fix the truck and add another instructor. Their answer was money. Also that someone accidently signed up too many people. How would that be an accident? I paid out if pocket , most students were WFC though.

When I signed up they never told me their truck was broke and they were short instructors. Even though apparently it was the case for a few months prior. They told me if I wanted my money back I had to have done it with in 2 days of signing up. Yet I didn't discover any of this until past that mark. I signed up on a Friday and started Monday. That Friday they even showed me the maual truck and never told me it was broken. Also told me only 3 people would be in my class.

My younger brother went to MT a year ago and hes the one that recommended it to me but he received more education than I did. He had 4 weeks with him and 1 other student, full days, 2 instructors, and both trucks. They even thought him coupling, uncoupling and other skills they never tought me. So I believed they would be a good school. However between when he was a student and I was I guess things had changed. Yet the school never told me and made false promises. They were trying to push the 24 students as quickly as possible. Many students were pushed through even faster than I was. Only reason I had 4.5 weeks was DUE to my complaining. I only received 20 minutes of on the road driving a day. I asked for more and was denied it. They said they were being nice giving me the extra week. To them it was about how long in was a student their for. So a student there for 4 weeks with a small class size and many hours of drive time is the same\equal to a large class and hardly any drive time. Either way 4 weeks is the limit.

Also I tried offering my younger brother to teach me to drive but he does otr and works at trans am. He never takes home time and I am not allowed to drive his truck. He's a lease operator so he can't afford to take time to come home and teach me. I even offered to pay him. He's never been a brother i can rely on.

Hmm I think the fact that I'm lookingbfor more education would make me a potentially good driver. I did not suck at training. They never gave me training is the problem. You dont have to be a rude person. I say for only 3 hours of actual drive time and passing the CDL test I did well with paying attention.

Why would I be on here if I just wanted to blame the school and give up being a driver? Instead I'm asking for help and advise.

OK, seriously, forget about the school. You're done with it. You have your CDL and YOU CAN DO THIS. It's a drivers market out there now, there were over a hundred postings on CL for drivers in the Milwaukee area alone the other day. Go to these places, NOT E-MAIL. Explain your situation, IN PERSON, like I said before, I heard of a company getting over 200 e-mails one day, and the HR dept. was so overwhelmed, they didn't look at any of them. Specify you need an automatic. Lots of companies have them, and you aren't lying, you have the credentials. Go for it , dear!

I feel like if I at least knew how to shift I would be able to pass an orientation maybe.

I used to train drivers. I rarely had a problem with folks learning how to shift. Can you drive a manual in a car?

Hi GearWarrant, that's true, it may be a little rough at first, but it doesn't take long. I remember, years ago, before cell phones, they had pay phones right past the cash boxes on the ILL tollway. They were located right about the point where drivers would go from low to high range after paying the toll. Man, you never heard so much grinding going on in your life. Those boxes are tough!
