Daily pay is awesome. Lucky you that they got you home for Turkey Day. I get to spend it will all the others that got stuck out on the road, at least I have a load!

Knight pays me once a week. They don't pay me enough but that's a whole 'nother thread. Why is daily pay awesome ? Why do you guys like it ?
-
Hi Dna Mach and everybody. Daily pay is sorta nice if you are good at managing your money. It reminds me of making tips when I was a waiter about a century ago. You can make pretty decent money waiting tables, especially if you're a guy, but the quick cash by way of tips demands a bit more self control. In the end, it does not likely matter if you are payed weekly or daily, it's just a preference for me.
As for Knight and my experience with them? I have been driving with them for about a month and a half out of the Columbus, OH terminal. Knight is a big company. Number 15 (trucking), I believe. The main draw for myself, in light of current economic events, is simply this: They are debt free. It is obviously a well run company. As well organized as I have seen in my 10+ years of driving. As for other statements made by drivers? I understand that Mr. Knight, who came from Swift, did not say to himself, I want to start a company to help drivers, or make drivers happy, or a company that puts drivers first. I am betting that he started Knight Transportation to make money. What do you expect? Of course the share holders are going to come first. That will cost you. That is why I only have three batteries, a stripped truck, though newer, and have been sitting for two days waiting on a trailer. This is my biggest beef so far. The lack of trailers. These guys that enter into judgement about a company without even being there for a minimum of six months to a year should be ignored for the most part. You can have some very bad days with the best trucking company on earth! I was with Jevic before the holding company that owned them decided to stop the bleeding. I am now making about 20 grand less with Knight. The pay with Knight cannot be judged on simply looking at your weekly gross. Long term, with available options, the pay is competitive. I keep records of everything. For what its worth, here are my stats so far:
Code:Week Month Year Avg Paid Miles Per 2840 12307 147682 Avg Gross Per 1025.96 4445.88 53350.04 Avg Net Per 848.89 3678.52 44142.19 Avg Hometime Per 0.5 2.1 25.5 Total Paid Miles 17446 Avg Len of Haul 727 Number Trips 24 Total Days Home 3.0
) Have a good one! Over and out!
AfterShock, duffer26 and Harry Boland Thank this. -
thanks Tstom i am looking at starting with them next month and am on the fence with the dry van or refer thinking i am going to go refer due to the whole trailer thing most refer stuff is live l/ul so less finding a trailer ...i hope

I've been getting some long hauls and I'm a regional driver. Got sent from Marcy ny to Glenn Falls ny, then took that load to De Pere wi which is pretty much in Green Bay Wi.
I can check my pay online at Planetknight which is cool.
They don't want fuel reciepts which My last company needed, and they are very nice so far. Like talking to other drivers with the company. Everyone helps each other which is a big plus.
I think I may stay with these guys for the long haul. I love that they are not on your butt all the time so long as you do your best they leave you alone.
But, I've heard different terminals vary. Syracuse so far is pretty good and other drivers there seem to like it.
Three weeks and no real complaints yet. Trying to figure out why my pay isn't getting to my Comdata card when it says it should on my qualcom though???? -
Oh, I forgot to add. If you want to get home every weekend. You do. They make sure of it.
-
The main thing I have heard from their drivers is that this company is better suited for drivers who do not want to be out for several weeks at a time.
I know some drivers who got off the road just because they could not be away from home for the time most company's wanted them to.
They also seem to utilize slip seating for part time drivers which keeps the trucks on the road making money.
I also like the fact that they pay more for shorter runs unlike some like May trucking which pay the same for all miles short or long. -
I didn't know they had slip seating. Where I'm at they ask you if you want long haul or regional. All regional drivers get home on the weekends. I get about 2500 miles a week. Keep me running which is a big switch from my last company.
Keep my own truck though. Would suck to slip seat and have to move my stuff in and out all the time. -
Only the part time drivers slip seat. 4 on 4 off 7 on 7 etc. I almost went to 4 on 4 but didn't because of the slip seating. Not because of the hassle, because some people don't place an emphasis on hygiene. You should see some of the mattresses I have seen sitting near the dumpster.....dam !

I'm never home.....
I think the people who run my termial have issues.
