I don't know how they calculate d.c.i. with USA Truck, but I just know that with Swift when it was hot I had the a/c on while I slept 8 hours a night, and no more, and they said this was well over 30%. I never had any problems when I had that stupid opt-idle thing, but when they switched trucks on me I had to either have it on or off. I still don't know if I fully understand d.c.i., but since 8 hours is one-third of a day, I don't see how it could be 20%.
So I guess you think I'm a whiner! Well lemme just say that with Swift for every reason I quit there were 100 crappy things that I would have put up with. Congratulations, you're a better person than I am

Yeah I just heard about the pet laws, thought that was really stupid! I mean I like dogs and everything, but come on, I think drivers are at least as important as they are!!Last edited: Jul 23, 2009

Okay, I'm not trying to be a wiseguy, but I wrote a detailed post about idling here:
http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...s/85365-driver-controlled-idling-dci-d-c.html
I'd appreciate any input from you folks! Thanks (I'm allowed to post URLs for threads here, right?) -
i do not recall calling you a "whiner"if i did please show me.i was just responding to your post.USA Truck has icon systems in most of their trucks which shuts the truck on and off to run the air, heat, keep batteries charged etc.i also slept 8 hours a day while with them and never had idle time over their guidelines matter of fact it got cold enough in my truck that during the night i would have to put a blanket over me during the summer. They (USA Truck) never and i reiterate never told us we could not idle our trucks.I have seen truck drivers idleing the trucks they drive while they are inside eating the buffet, watching tv in the lounge, taking showers etc.As long as they are not the ones paying the companies fuel cost they do not seem to care.Me personally i dont even idle my personal vehicles when i am not in them.

I didn't say you called me a whiner, I said "I guess you think I'm a whiner!" which I'd think you would, judging by what you said (you have the right to think whatever you want, of course!). I didn't know you had one of those idle shut off things - how would I know unless you mentioned it? The guy from USA Truck didn't mention that to me on the phone today, either, which I'd have thought he would have done (should have done), judging by all the questions I was asking him about idle time.
I agree with you about not idling your vehicle unless it's absolutely necessary, even if you're a company driver and even if they don't hound you about idle time. I'm just used to having Swift bugging me and bugging me and bugging me ... telling me it's totally okay to have my truck idle when I'm sleeping but then the next day yell at me because my idle time is too high!
Anyway thanks for clearing that up, sorry if I was a little ####y. -
Just tell them the ICON system is broke. They can't figure out how to fix it right anyway.

your right about that infosaur, they will just send it to the dealership

When we worked for swift- the % they wanted you to keep idle at was unbeleive and unhealty. BUT
we learned a trick
pretty sure it was against company policy BUT
got a qualcom mesg every week thanking us for keeping our idle time low-HAHAHALast edited: Aug 4, 2009
