I would go another route if I were you. Knight pays you in pennies. You named like the 3 worst companies to drive for.

Not idling per se... cost cutting in logistics possibly...

 

Said he's a new driver .. not doing a study, or a survey.
Probably majored in Theatre, or English Literature and realized there are no jobs in those fields with 50 thousand new applicant graduates each year with the same useless degree further flooding the market for the same five jobs.
Now, real life, and student loan payments are a reality.

To the OP.
Most megas severely frown upon idling as it eats diesel fuel and profit at the rate of about $2.50/hr.
Multiply that by 5 thousand power units and 10hrs each night and you can see the monstrous number.

Find a company that at least provides an APU (auxiliary power unit) to keep you warm or cool on your down time.

Don't be treated like an animal.
You are a human being.
You will see -10° and you will see 120°.
They expect you to sit and sleep through that with the truck OFF.

 

Best to go to the motor carriers section and ask the drivers who drive for those companies. That way, you are sure to get a response from those actual drivers who would know.

 

Consider companies that have APU, then idling is off the table. Where are you in Arizona?
