If everyone lies, then why can job hopping ruin a CDL?

If everyone including the drivers at pretty much every company that hires from the public lies, then why can job hopping paper weight a CDL?

By job hopping I mean over four companies within a five year span

By lies I mean rarely seeing promised hometime, and no detention pay and layover guarantees etc

Contrary to what you may believe not every company lies to you. Some do exactly what they promise you. They are out there. Keep your record, clean and work hard and you can find one that will hire you.

Stay away from the mega carriers is the key and also looking for something specialized doesn’t hurt either.

With freight hauling companies one's about as good as another. The problem with job hopping ain't really the companies. This is trucking and is what it is for better or worse. The problem is the attitude of the person looking in the mirror changing jobs like a dirty shirt. Top tier companies in pay/benefits that are still hiring in current market conditions probably can pick through 10+ applications for every opening they have. So how do you think that 4 jobs in 5 years is going to help when there are people with a cleaner history wanting that same job?

I "job hopped" all my life. It used to be easy in the trucking industry, that's if you had a clean CDL and flawless record. I worked at several co's more than once. I worked OTR and local. But I got slapped in the face in early 2000 when a co said you have had too many jobs, sorry. And I thought about it and said to myself, yes that's true, so I became an O/O again and that's how I finished my career. But just let me say, the only real control you have in this business is when you are behind the wheel on the highway. The rest of it is someone bossing you around, from dispatch to security grunt to lumper to DOT cop to mechanic in the shop to girl behind the window etc etc etc. Don't matter what co you work for. All the same. Yes, the truth hurts.......:crybaby:

I say this all the time. You can have legitimate reasons for needing off work, or for changing jobs. It doesn’t matter to a potential employer. They have a job that needs to be done, and whatever reason you had for quitting your previous jobs doesn’t change their need. And, when they see your job history, all they care about is you’re not reliable. They don’t give any consideration as to why because it doesn’t change the fact that they need a job done and you can’t be relied upon to do it for a time period that’s acceptable to them.

    It’s that simple.

The Problem: It protects bad companies... It encourages bad companies..

They will run over drivers denying home time requests and dropping pay, and as a driver you become unemployable the second you buck... Eventually it'll be nothing but a bunch of Western Express type companies...

Megas ran freight down to 1.80-3.00 so that's no longer a fallback using a lender or rentals, and even after that brokers pretty much act like DMs since covid. Full ownership o/o get asked why they aren't driving..

    That setting precedence thing.....

99% if a carrier wants you as their driver it usually happens during the interview and or drive test if given one. I job hopped back in the 90's a lot however did find a place I worked for later in life. As of late, as a O/o I had to change 3 different ones within a year (of course I'm considered a contractor now so that is slightly different). I never met a driver recruiter or manager doing an interview going by month's & years list only the year so resumes can be manipulated accordingly. Once your driving record is good along with your personality and you have some experience there is always company that is willing to hired you.
